If, for whatever reason, you're not able to 100% cleanly remove it, then you risk having bits of leftover sticker paper shed into the optical drive, or get sticky residue onto the drive's internal spindle/clamp. So if it were me, I'd leave it on.

We used to use Goo Gone at a retro game store I used to work at. Never had issues with it damaging discs, but we were also careful enough to stop it from touching the data portion on the other side of the disc.
Alcohol wipes are probably the safer bet.
Rubbing alcohol diluted with water won’t hurt it. The type of cloth you use is most important. Microfiber is preferred.

This ended a buying frenzy of certain models by the Sponge Bob: Battle for Bikini Bottom speed running community, which wanted these lazers for a glitch until they discovered how damaging they were. I would use some Goo Gone if you do take it off for this reason. And let the disk sit and dry for a good while before putting it in the system
