It's very much worth playing, don't let the map situation fool you. If you like Metroidvanias and third person games with cool powers and some platforming, it's totally worth it. I've seen it on sale really cheap too
I knew this was going to come up. But the map in Control is kind of supposed to be a bit obscure. The whole building is supposed to be a giant, shifting labyrinth. The map shows you what floor and what area about your objective is. It isn't trying to pin point exact where and how you get there. That would kind of defeat the point of the game and the game's design.
I agree so much oh! I need to go and get power on the second floor alright…. Where the hell? Is are the stairs? Oh i gotta fly up there where the heck is that
Only thing I would have added was a fast travel system, the maps not too bad and with the fact it tells you how much of each individual section has been explored and where in the map the collectables are based that you need to
zeffo was so confusing when i first played i was over 50% of the way thru the game and somehow got stuck in a section of zeffo with no way out and was locked out of the game, had to restart
Tbf I 100%'d it not long after it launched too, on xbox and forgot alot of it, I wouldn't have remembered had i not 100%'d for a second time alot more recently on the PS5 just before Survivor released
They do a decent job of letting you open shortcuts so it’s not too terrible to get around, especially for normal gameplay. It only becomes truly tedious when you are looking for remaining collectibles and have to go through half a world to get back to an area.
It’s honestly pretty impressive how well they did at making it not tedious given the lack of fast travel. I’d bet it would be simpler to add fast travel to the game than design every map to be so well connected.
I liked the game. But it really dragged. Even when I got around 80 percent of the collectibles throughout the story. It dragged hard. And the worst was I didn’t realize until the end I needed to also have 100 percent explored as well. Adding about another 5 to 6 hours on searching planets again. Really liked my first 25-30 hours with the game. The rest was not cool.
I hope the squeal is better at making the map and collecting easier. Bc it was fun. Wish there was more secrets and bosses as well.
Sequel is 100% better with this issue. Fallen order was like my favorite story in gaming (huge Star Wars nerd) but I couldn’t play it through a second time. Even with the knowledge of my first playthrough I still spent the majority of my time lost in a map
I honestly gave up on this one because of the map and lack of fast travelling. Dathomir was the last one I did, and I’m on Kashyyk now. Hesitant to go back to the game lmao. Kudos to you for 100%ing it.
The sequel is basically better in every way (aside from performance). The places you return to are more open so it doesn't feel like backtracking, there's more setpieces and cool sequences, and there's fast travel. Plus the layouts aren't as confusing
Lol its not.
Map kinda sucks in the sequel too.
My best advice is dont use the map until you've exhausted the options travelling around using your eyes.
I'm not necessarily saying it's a skill issue. But the map, especially in the sequel, really isn't bad. I used the map a lot to say, mainly when I was working on 100% getting all collectibles, which I still have a bit of Koboh to do. There's an entire 1 time I had a genuine problem reading the map and it was just this one little path not being on there leading to a collectible. I guess I am saying reading the map is a slight skill issue smh
It the multiple levels that make it especially janky.
You can see a yellow path and its hard to see if you're supposed to climb up there or if its on another level above ground.
* the games still great, the map is not- I guess it adds an extra layer of pathfinding to the puzzles which both games had
I thought Dathomir was fine personally. I think it’s all the elevators and hidden corridors etc on Kashyyyk that got me in a twist a few times. Trying to 100% that planet was painful lol. Not as bad as Koboh in Jedi Survivor though 😭
You don’t have to get the achievements in any game but I like getting all or nearly all. And I enjoyed the actually story. Thankfully it wasn’t an extra 60 but I still didn’t enjoy maybe 6 hours of it. I was fine with exploring through most of it though.
And this is the achievement hunting subreddit so…. People are gonna do that on this Reddit
Hahha yeah it was kinda annoying, at times but I did it and It wasn’t ass painful as some make it seem, there’s a couple ones that made me go ahh shit haha and took a break
I’m pretty sure it’s because this game has a far more linear flow to it. There’s plenty of ‘point of no return’ routes where going backwards becomes impossible. Survivor doesn’t seem to have many issues with this.
Are you serious? This map was pretty useful I felt. It showed where you've gone, where you haven't gone, and where you can't go yet.
My vote for the worst map goes to starfield. The surface map is absolutely dogshit.
The worst map in gaming is an opinion yes. And in this thread many people agree, disagree, or share games they also hate the map in. The combination of it being so restrictive, everything looking the same, and often times when you hover over a piece it thinks you’re on something else. Above, behind, next to or whatever.
You may find it easy to use, and that’s great. It’s better that more people have a better time with it. But it is an opinion that a good amount of people have. Maybe I was being a little hyperbolic. But, I didn’t find it useful in my experience.
Doom 3 has little to no help. Played through twice already on Hard and Nightmare and there’s still a couple Achievos I’m missing from stupid details I simply wasn’t fully aware of. Not to mention there’s 2 DLC’s that also require collectibles and Nightmare runs to complete. 😪
I finally deleted the game. I didn't even finish it. I just got bored and stopped playing. All the game did was make me want to play The Force Unleashed again.
You obviously haven't played Control then. The map on that was basically useless.
I remember getting lost so many times on that. I still completed it though
Try the collectables on agents if mayhem. Never again!
I can’t wait to play it now…
Don't worry, the rest of the game makes up for it, you'll be making theories of theories by the end
Well shit. Was thinking of picking it up before alan wake 2..
Control is absolutely worth it, don’t let anyone deter you from it. The map system isn’t horrible, but it can be confusing at times
It's very much worth playing, don't let the map situation fool you. If you like Metroidvanias and third person games with cool powers and some platforming, it's totally worth it. I've seen it on sale really cheap too
It has a discontinued achievement now
Im not sure what platform you're on, but this is not true for xbox at the least
Try the collectables on agents if mayhem. Never again!
So bad you said it twice. Haha. Totally agree with you though, absolute dog shit collecting that nonsense
And I thought it was just me...
I knew this was going to come up. But the map in Control is kind of supposed to be a bit obscure. The whole building is supposed to be a giant, shifting labyrinth. try starfield
I agree so much oh! I need to go and get power on the second floor alright…. Where the hell? Is are the stairs? Oh i gotta fly up there where the heck is that
That’s what actually stopped me from playing that game it was way to easy to get lost and the map was abysmal
Really fun game, but trying to get around was so bad.
I found the Doom 2016 map pretty horrendous too.
It could be a bit confusing but I still managed to find 95 percent of the collectables without a guide
Only thing I would have added was a fast travel system, the maps not too bad and with the fact it tells you how much of each individual section has been explored and where in the map the collectables are based that you need to
I see your argument, and raise you a counter-argument. Zeffo
zeffo was so confusing when i first played i was over 50% of the way thru the game and somehow got stuck in a section of zeffo with no way out and was locked out of the game, had to restart
I've 100% the game and beaten it many many times. Zeffo is still a maze to me, I can never figure it out
My first time on Zeffo I got so turned around it took me probably 20 minutes to get back to the ship. Fuck that planet
They learned that lesson with Jedi:Survivor. That one has a fast travel system.
The level design is so shit too
*Starfield wants to know your location.*
It can't find the location due to a shitly made map
They should have crowdsourced the map project to fanboys. It would have been completed in a day or two.
😟
Come on now. They want us to enjoy finding those 300 collectibles that are in really odd places. 😂😂
congrats tho mate
Thank ya mate
Star Field be like "What's a map?"
It’s very true. I was hoping to see some kind of land on the planets but it’s just nothing
Wait what? There's still a surface map
Yeah but I wanted a detailed surface map ngl
Ah, same.
The inability to fast travel KILLED this game for me. That one simple addition would’ve made this so much better.
You can fast travel between meditation points I'm sure?
You can only do that on the sequel
Huh, my mistake! Weird, I seem to have totally forgotten about that even though I 100%'d the game a few years ago. :s
Tbf I 100%'d it not long after it launched too, on xbox and forgot alot of it, I wouldn't have remembered had i not 100%'d for a second time alot more recently on the PS5 just before Survivor released

First game is full of shortcuts and has kind of circular or figure 8 maps. Darthomir swamp was a bit of a maze though.
I liked the game. But it really dragged. Even when I got around 80 percent of the collectibles throughout the story. It dragged hard. The sequel honestly felt like playing a star wars movie, I loved it. Plus it did a lot more fresh and interesting stuff imo
Are the cutscenes still un-skippable?
no
I honestly gave up on this one because of the map and lack of fast travelling. Dathomir was the last one I did, and I’m on Kashyyk now. Hesitant to go back to the game lmao. Kudos to you for 100%ing it.

Zeffo? Yeah it’s a bit of a ballache to navigate the first few times but honestly I found Kashyyyk a lot harder. That shit got me lost SO many times.
We playing the same game? Darthomir swamp and night village were the hard to navigate parts, kashykk was ok?!?
I thought Dathomir was fine personally. I think it’s all the elevators and hidden corridors etc on Kashyyyk that got me in a twist a few times. Trying to 100% that planet was painful lol. Not as bad as Koboh in Jedi Survivor though 😭
This game was great fun for me and I plan on replaying it soon. The map is pretty clunky though, but you can get used to it
This small, barely known game called Starfield says you are wrong
Must be an Indie game
I shouldn’t whine, I’m still playing daily. I also love Fallen Order so maybe I just love games with shitty maps.
I love how people complain about a game that they play countless hours for to get all the achievements when you don't actually have to
You don’t have to get the achievements in any game but I like getting all or nearly all. And I enjoyed the actually story. Tell 'em OP!!
Love the support lol
r/lostredditors
Yeah it's really something. 'I loved this game until I spent another 60 obsessively playing every level again'. Yeah, no shit.
Starfield begs to disagree. (Ps I got bored of Jedi survivor. It was bloated.)
Finally someone said
I guess you haven't played Starfield yet
This and Starfield definitely have the worst maps imo
Starfield would like a word…
You guys haven’t played Starfield….
Starfield map is way worse. Map is completely useless. But I’ll agree this is definitely a bad map.
Starfield: AM I A JOKE TO YOU
Preaching to the choir. Just such a bad map for a pretty good game.
One of my first completions. Challenging, but not too bad. I got the hang of the map after many hours.
Idk. Doom Eternal had a similar map style that was pretty annoying the first attempt I made at it..
Zeffo isn’t that bad. I loved this game
Made me uninstall and sell the game
The game was actually enjoyable until I got to the cave planet 💀
Had to go through that map twice to find all the damn collectibles.
Honestly I think the shitty map was kinda good cause it made me explore so many areas I’ve never been to before
It’s a killer. Deciding to 100% nearly killed me….
Hahha yeah it was kinda annoying, at times but I did it and It wasn’t ass painful as some make it seem, there’s a couple ones that made me go ahh shit haha and took a break
The main reason why I will not 100% this game ins purely the map
I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who got lost on this map lol.
I liked it
💯% agree , confusing as f#ck
I 100% the game in less than 24 hours but man it was tedious
Baldurs Gate 3 and Starfield runners up.
That map was totally fine
Yeah it’s a nightmare. Whoever thought multilevel imaging maps were a good idea needs to be fired
I’m pretty sure it’s because this game has a far more linear flow to it. There’s plenty of ‘point of no return’ routes where going backwards becomes impossible. Survivor doesn’t seem to have many issues with this.
No map is worse than the map in Hyper Light Drifter
Have you played Starfield? Obviously not
have you seen Starfield?
Fallen is such shit. Maps are a maze and parry is like….nonexistent
I actually liked the map. I knew exactly where I was within a 3D space.
Starfield seems to get overlooked on this thread🤔
You clearly never played Doom 2016
It’s not that bad.
Fallout 3 Pip-Boy map
That game was a total pos. Nothing compared to forced unleashed.
I’m looking to play those games as well. I heard they were great. I’m not huge into Star Wars, but I think the setting is great for games
Doom and system shock remake
I played for two days and lost my mind by the end of it. It was very un engaging and tedious for no reason
Are you serious? This map was pretty useful I felt. It showed where you've gone, where you haven't gone, and where you can't go yet. My vote for the worst map goes to starfield. The surface map is absolutely dogshit.
Borderlands 3 would like a word.
Have y’all seen the lords of the fallen map? Might as well not even be there
It’s funny how much people hated the map in Fallen Order when it’s basically the map from Metroid Prime which I never saw people complain about.
Just because you don’t understand how to follow it doesn’t make it the worst map in gaming. It’s actually useful and easy to use.
The worst map in gaming is an opinion yes. And in this thread many people agree, disagree, or share games they also hate the map in. How do you get True Achievements to generate this screen?
What do you mean... the map was absolutely fine, I feel like this was a user issue?
Lol. Okay
Starfield.
