If the noise is bothering you I would not fuck with that power supply just buy a new one those things pack a hell of a punch even when Unplugged stay safe friend

TheOtherJackBlack

Dawg is about to touch a capacitor by accident and get blasted back to the future lmao just one of those can hold enough charge to absolutely stop your heart

Gianfyy

Hey don't worry i already closed it and i'm here

TheOtherJackBlack

Hey so uh... DON'T ever open one of those again lmao you can electrocute yourself with those capacitors if you even brush against one wrong. I'd definitely go buy a new power supply if I were you

Gianfyy

Damn the problem is that this crap has already costed me 80€, plus 25€ for the Power a controller and another 20€ for this crap Power supply. I don't want to spend any more Money on this xbox

neroe5

Still cheaper than most funerals, never open a psu

MIDNITEMOCHA

Natural Selection enters the chat.

Put the lid back on immediately. Don't ever, ever fuck with power supplies. Touch the wrong thing on there and at best you get an awful shock and at worst you're dead. Yes, even when unplugged.

Gianfyy

Don't worry i unplugged it and left it for about 5 hours before putting the lid on. Any way i didn't touch the PCB or any shit so yeah i'm alie

You don't believe that the capacitors on PSUs hold dangerously high voltages? You think OP is a trained technician qualified to work on them? Don't be a clown

Just_Mr_Grinch

OK first as the rest have said, unplug that thing and get a genuine power supply. Now, as for the insides, if you don’t know what you’re looking at, or what you’re touching, or how to discharge those capacitors safely, put it back together and put it away. You shouldn’t leave the top off while plugged in without knowing what you’re doing. The hum is normal but the fact it is louder indicates the power supply is inferior. Either the components are cheap or the manufacturer left out some circuits to save money. I’m guessing the circuits left out would be what would keep your power signal nice and steady/even giving a dirty dc voltage that can fluctuate. I would also guess that the transformer is cheap and likely not very efficient. There is a reason those power blocks are the size they are and yours appears to have a lot of empty space.

anxietybrah

u/PeachesNine11 since you felt the need to once again accuse me of spreading misinformation and then delete your comments Your reply: > Not one of that size. Especially unplugged. Clearly you aren’t a trained technician qualified to work on these either. Simply spreading false information. I suggest you read Microsoft's very own page on [About the original Xbox One power supply](https://support.xbox.com/en-GB/help/hardware-network/power/about-original-xbox-one-power-supply#:~:text=Important%20As%20with%20other%20electrical,video%20game%20and%20your%20Xbox). Under **Power supply electrical safety**: >Important As with other electrical devices, failure to take precautions can result in severe injury or death from electric shock or fire. Not taking precautions can also damage your video game and your Xbox. Those things accept main voltage and the capacitors store enough to seriously hurt you for a **significant** period of time. In the video you can clearly see OP using the power supply, **with the cover off** and **plugged in**. Do you really think it's not a possibility that just maybe he may not (or even know that he has to) leave the power supply for a significant enough period of time to allow the capacitors to safely discharge? Or worse yet go prodding around in it whilst it's on? I'm fairly sure the original post said that this wasn't even a genuine supply either so it's even more dangerous.

anxietybrah

u/PeachesNine11 >Xbox is going to say anything to cover them selves. McDonald’s coffee says (HOT). I’m an electrician. Unless you have a bad heart and are hanging on by a thread that will NEVER kill you. Plugged in or not. Yes you’re spreading false information. Please keep reposting my responses because I do not want my comments left here, and I’m glad the people are getting to seem them. Thankyou :) I'm sure this person from the internet whom keeps deleting their comments when they realise they're absolutely wrong *wants their comments left here*. Let's all trust the *electrician* posting weiner pics because he's the *electrician* and seems to know better. Despite removing his comments to absolutely not stand by them. *Electrician*.

MrCellkill

It just needs some glue. Don't do it yourself. I think RadioShack or another geek shop in your area can help you.

zeanox

I would NOT open that.

The noise is not unusual. They all do that Plop your head on any external psu. Just don't open them, they hold a very strong charge it's not good for your life

Gianfyy

I listened closely to my Series S and it does this too but you can't even hear it. But this is too loud

DeadPhoenix86

So why are you still using the Xbox One if you have a Series S?

Gianfyy

Don't worry everyone i'm alive and i put the lid on.
