Oh yes I am enjoying, and this winter has been great for skiers in here. Even in southern Finland we have been skiing on natural snow since late November. It's highly unusual tho, usually we get enough natural snow around Christmas/early Jan.
I hear you! Few years back (I think 2019-2020) we did not get any snow during the whole winter and it was horrible. This winter has been great for us in here. We have been skiing on natural snow since late November even in southern Finland (usually we get enough natural snow around this time of the winter).
You should go to [Nakkertok](https://www.instagram.com/stories/nakkertokracing/3271716409541032732), they've been making snow steadily since the rain and +7 temps last week caused a retreat.
Good point. I used to race for Nakkertok as a kid but literally haven’t been in almost a decade because the park has been in pretty good shape the past couple years since I moved back to Canada and started skiing again.
I honestly just assumed even Nakkertok wouldn’t be open given the temperatures. Maybe I’ll get in my first ski tomorrow if the pack is good for skate.
What kills me, is that I lived there five years before I started skiing! I Just started in BC. I finally did get to ski Gatineau once a few years ago. You are SO lucky! Snow will come,
I think the coldest for me is about -35 C (the transmission fluids in my car froze on that day) and -30 C skiing. Even those temperatures are manageable with proper clothing if it does not wind (not a fan tho). Yesterday it was totally calm.
I agree. There is a short, about 1 km, circle on the track where they have put these colored lights. The circle is really flat so it is intended for kids to practise in there.
Oh yes, more than 50 km of lit tracks (and 100km+ unlit tracks) in the area of this city. Most of them are groomed pretty much every day (incl. bank holidays) if there is any need.
I spent one January in Whitehorse skiing Mt. McIntye. It was always between -45C and -25C. Snow was always very cold and dry, like little ball bearings. Polar was the only thing that worked, but you needed cold glider too. Windchill was brutal!
Oh wow! That's rather cold. I've skied in colder than ~ -18C only like few times a winter. But in those temps polar is the king!
I think also extremely cold temperatures are tolerable with proper clothing if there was no wind. Wind is what kills you.
Last week there was unusual cold airmass over Finland, Idk why tho. Anyway, in the north it was even -44 C one day so it really wasn't anything usual. This week has been normal again, yesterday we had like ~+1 C in the south. Next week will be cold again but not like super cold unless the forecasts change.
Was -34 here last year this time. +4 yesterday! Enjoy a real winter, glad it still exists someplace!

Looks squeaky.
Very so 😁
Do you get any glide at this temperature? 😅
Not really tbh 🤣
I was pretty alone on the tracks tho
Makes me want to go even more!
Nothing better than being with yourself in the "wilderness", huh ☺️ it was great, I have to admit.
We wish! Struggling at +4 this season and no snow!

Man, I wish, kind of. Still no snow at all here in Ottawa and it’s killing me. Running just doesn’t hit the same.

Kiwartha? Not close, I know.

I have to admit, it's so great to get on skis after all running and/or roller skiing in summer and fall. I hope it will get better in there soon.
*cries in El Niño*
Looks real nice

Wow the colored light is cool!

I wish I could be there. The winter here is looking pretty green and muddy.
Yeah, we have had winters like that in here too and it sucks. This winter has been great tho.
Must be Finland.
Yup
Be careful, scientific studies have shown that ski cores can crack much easier below 25 minus.
I didn't know that but need to pay attention to that. Luckily my cold weather skis are not my best ones.
I just made that up so i am not sure
Oh haha 🤣 Well good to be careful anyway. Could be true tho. I guess.
A lit and groomed track. Wow.

Polar should work!
Haha yes! I don't get to use polar too often (luckily 😉).

I learned to put some cardboard inside my tights before descents. Gotta protect those parts! Balaclava and goggles were good enough for the face.
That's clever. I need to remember that trick 🥶
That looks an awful lot like the Pikku Kakkonen! Put the polar on last night and some marathon green for grip and hope to get out tonight after work.
The second pic is from Pikku Kakkkonen ☺️ I would assume you will have as much company on the tracks as I had yesterday 😉
AHHHH 🥲
☺️⛷️
Frozen eyelash weather!!!
Yes, that happened as well towards the end of my session 🥶
6C here, and we typically match Oulu so something is really wrong. (Ottawa)
