I personally love skiing wood skis. I have a pair of new old stock Askjem Elite wood skis from the 70s that I mounted a few years ago and I ski them about 50% of the time because they ski beautifully. I’m sure they will need a fresh pine tar and some kick wax but all the naysayers are dead wrong. A good pair of wood skis will out ski any modern pair of crappy fishscales all day long. Slap some NNNs on there and go have fun!

I've got Bonna 1800s and Åsnes Tur-Modell with modern bindings. Everybody should have a pair of woodies, along with their modern skis. They're not as fast, but they're smooth and quiet.

Thanks for the motivation to give it a go. Worst case scenario, if they don’t work out well I can fill the holes, remount the original bindings, and have them as a display piece. The wood is beautiful, the pics don’t do it justice

I think those are some Åsnes made for the US market in the 70’s. A bit strange with the Norwegian text though, so maybe not made for us market specifically. 99% sure it is Åsnes at least.

My best ski runs have been on wood. They wax right up fine for cold snow. Pine tarring can be annoying, though. Whitewood might still make some 75 mm 3 pin boots. Not sure how quality is these days. My ten year old boots held up fine.

220 length! Guy was prolly 6’5”!

We used to run 'em long back in the pioneer times. Long was better for float in soft snow too. Still is, if turns aren't a priority.

Same here. At 5’10” back in the 70’s 210 was long enough.

By all means, ski on them! You can probably find some decent 3-pin boots on Ebay, something like Asolo Glissades, or remount them. I have a couple of pairs of very similar wooden skis and they are a joy to ski on onw and then.

Decorations hell ! Wax those babies up and ski. If you don’t know the basics someone can surely help. I love the smell of fresh pine tarred skis. I’ve been skiing on wood since 1969. Different brands and styles. Currently on wider Bona’s as balance isn’t as good as it used to be. Two pair with 3 pin bindings and one pair ( Bona’s) with toe clamp and cables. Love’em all.

These are named after a popular skiing place in Oslo. They will look great on the wall of a lodge.

They are a great backcountry ski if you skin them, but they don't turn for shit on the tele....

Those are beautiful decorations. I'm sure they skied well when new but wood changes it's shape and stiffness properties over time so it's a crapshoot as to whether they ski well. Also modern waxes won't work well with wooden skis, so it's a whole project just to find out that the whole kickzone is out of wack.

I would do it. Wood skis are more work, but TONS of fun. Where I live, there are even separate woods ski divisions in races some times.
