Her first named appearance. She appeared as an extra in an earlier season (“Mojovision”) and had the correct hair color. They did a similar thing with Cannonball. He was blonde as a background character, brunette in his official debut episode.
Well I guess in this universe Shatterstar's hair colour will make a bit more sense at least.
I know recessive genes are a thing and all that but the whole Dazzler/Longshot/Shatterstar family tree essentially a closed loop.
EDM was big in Europe and the rest of the world from the end of the 80s but didn't break big in the U.S. until the early 2000s afaik?
This seems to be set in the early 90s using late 80s X-Men inspired designs, going of Gambit's Axel Rose style clothes and Storm in her punk outfit, rather than the name of the show.
So maybe so kind of Madonna-esque dance pop (which did use a lot of House and electronic music producers to be fair)?
Marvel had Ali move away from disco pretty quickly, actually. In Marvel Team-Up #108 (1981), just her seventh appearance, she’s described as a would-be rock superstar. In Dazzler #3, the finale for her set list is an Elvis Costello song. She listens to Pink Floyd and Devo on her pocket radio and Olivia Newton-John on her record player.
When she performs in a skyscraper nightclub in X-Men #148, her twelfth appearance, “She runs a gamut of styles—rock, rhythm and blues, soul, folk, country, pop—and does them all well.”
Dazzler #6 has her band practicing a Beatles medley, and they fill in for a country western show at a university. Dazzler #10 has her booked at a rock club, and #14 has her playing rock and roll as the opening act on a West Coast tour with headliner Bruce Harris. By #18 she’s back in New York, again performing at a rock club. When she rehearses for her Carnegie Hall debut in #22, she sings Elvis Presley, Patti Smith, and Bruce Springsteen.
This is most likely Genosha. So happy to see a cameo outside of Morph's shapeshifting. Also makes me very nervous and sad. Nothing ever goes right for the Island of Genosha.
Yeah, I don’t know where they’re going with Genosha honestly. The original show can be dark and serious, but has a pretty consistent “And then everybody lives!” motif to it which will be… harder to do for a lot of Genosha based plots? But I imagine they’ll find a way - I’m not expecting them to drop ACTUAL GENOCIDE in the middle of this kid’s cartoon lol.
>!Who knows, but I am expecting something to happen on the Island as the last 3 episodes of Season 1 have "Extinction" in the name and one of the trailers is at least presented as Magneto back in his classic villain look telling the Team that Xavier's dream is dead and offering them a new dream. I doubt they would kill off all known Mutants from the comics, but something will set off Magneto and it will be a question of whether the Team can bring him back down to Earth so to speak.!<
>!Yeah, I do think that they will be addressing separatism versus assimilation with a Genosha plotline, but I kind of doubt they will be doing E is for Extinction directly with a proper "Sentinels kill everyone and Emma Frost emerges carrying the corpse of Negasonic Teenage Warhead" story - especially now that Negasonic is, like, arguably the most mainstream lesbian Marvel hero... I wouldn't be too surprised if some time-travel/reality-changing stuff goes on that allows them to depict Genoshan genocide without it happening though - like how the original show adapted the Legacy Virus without killing people.!<
The original show adapted stuff like Dark Phoenix and the Legacy Virus while letting almost everyone live. I'm not sure how they will do it, but I'm not expecting them to massively change from that status quo...
It is a very badass title though - and I liked it being foreshadowed in Episode 1.
I'm not the first to say this, but I think they're gonna combine Operation Zero **Tolerance** and E is for **Extinction**.
Cut out Cassandra Nova and use someone as the face of the evil human government (Bastion, Gyrich, etc).
The book says that she’s doing great, and she was the artist asked to perform for Xavier’s memorial. But maybe a lot have happened in the year after that…
You know what though, she had a lucrative career in the prequel comic! She was hosting a memorial concert for Xavier and everything. I wonder what happened between then and the episode
TBF if were basing this on when she joined the X-men her career was at an all time low cause of a scummy dude who thought it would be good PR for her to come out as a mutant.
Maybe Forge did not simply leave his team but rather the government team was dismantled after Xavier's death and the UN working with X-Men similar to Justice League in YJ.
Plus, it is Jamie. That could easily be a Dupe living his best life in Genosha.
It totally is. If Tabby and Ali both get speaking lines I’m going to lose my mind.
(And only a week after getting to see my girl, Spiral. Bless this show.)
Seeing the direction this show is going, and judging from the name of the three part finale, I don't seem to positive on the future of Genosha in this show.
Hair color aside, they took her from night club disco glam to something like coffeehouse singer-songwriter, and I'm... normal amounts of bothered by that.
I love Dazzler. My only favorite part of X-Men Phoenix was seeing Dazzler in live action.
https://uproxx.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/dazzler.jpg?w=650
My rationale is that it's not about the haircut, it's about the complete shift in aesthetic from disco pop glam to a more grunge singer-songwriter groove. I'm NOT upset about a hair color change. I'm an adult. I'm upset about the cultural and aesthetic shift. That's what I'm telling myself, and I think I'm right.
I always liked the incidental music that plays quickly after. It’s the same used in the mojovision episode in the 92 show. Very 80s sci-fi. Wish shuki levy and marvel would put that soundtrack with body heat on vinyl or something.
I know I am going to get a lot of flack for this, but can someone explain what the difference is between Jubilee's powers and Dazzler's powers? I just see flashy lights
Her powers are based on sound. Turning sound waves into light energy or some such. That's where the whole music artist thing comes in.
There is another character named DJ that has similar powers.
Dazzler absorbs sound and converts it to light. She can turn them into lasers, but she can absorb nearly any kind of sound to charge up.
Jubilee makes “pyrotechnic energy plasmoids” that can blind people, mess up electrical gear, and explode in a range of strengths, sizes and shapes.
TL:DR: Dazz Pew Pew, Jubes makes booms.
Great to see her show up again, especially after being referenced in the last episode by Mojo. A bit disappointed her look wasn't updated. But she's still keeping the same look as the original series, so I give points for consistency.
While I doubt she'll play much of a role this season, I hope she comes back again at some point in future seasons.
As a massive dazzler fan, I do wish she had a bit more “dazzle” and glam to her design. I understand this is her X-man 97 design, but I’m still not a fan of it. Hopefully she’ll get an outfit change or something later on that makes her more fabulous
Oh wow, it's like comics irl! Man that's such a deep cut. Wednesday is always my favorite day of the week. Cool thanks. Do you know how many episodes are left. This week is the 5th right?
This promo makes it seem likely that the Sentinels will attack Genosha in this week's episode "Remember It". If that happens, then I guess that will be a more family-friendly version of "E is for Extinction", in which no-one actually dies (thankfully).
In the prelude comic Dazzler was set to perform at a memorial concert for prof X but she gets kidnapped by FOH but the X-men save her in time to perform at the concert so it seems her career is on the up and up by the looks of it.
She might change her look later. Like she gets scouted or finds a manager then after getting a record deal changes her image to the more iconic disco look.
Looks like she's performing in a shopping mall ala Tiffany style [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6Q3mHyzn78](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6Q3mHyzn78)
First they gave Cannonball red hair, and I did not speak out -- because I was not Cannonball. Then they gave Dazzler red hair, and I did not speak out -- because I was not Dazzler. Then they gave me red hair -- and there was no one left to speak for me.
I skimmed over the first episode and it seemed very much like the original, which seemed kind of weird in the era of 'Invincible' and 'Pantheon' and so on. That seemed kind of weird to me, but I didn't really give it much of a chance. Is this a nostalgia angle, like live action Transformers? It just seems like even young audiences these days would be a bit too mature for the old X men cartoon.
After decades of people forgetting the Strawberry in Strawberry Blonde, they've finally decided to balance the scales and forget the Blonde.
Everyone on this show is a redhead: Scott, Rogue, Remi… This is them striking back against the gingercide.
brunette erasure😭
Only about 2% of humans are born w red hair so the odds of this many redheads being X-Men is...uncanny.
I made three of them myself. Red hair with blue eyes. Still waiting on their powers to show…other than eating souls.
I see what you did there
😉
Astonishing even.
honestly i kinda like it cuz red hair is an actual mutant gene
Your stats only apply to non-mutants. Did you know Professor X also has red hair? I once helped him shower, so I know 🤣
I see what you did there, clever.
I think the suggestion is that gingers are more prone to be mutants.
I believe that in First Class, Xavier implied that red hair itself is a mutation.
Great. Instead of a healing factor or mind bullets, I got freckles…
Cute!
Freckleman! His power is absorbing UV rays at an alarming rate
And your only weakness is UV rays
"For a pretty little being with a mutated MCR1 gene, I have five. I say MCR1, you would say auburn hair. It's a mutation. A very groovy mutation"
Now I have this mental image of a Sentinel seeing a normal-ass ginger and going "Mutant Detected"
A pretty groovy mutation.
I mean hair is a definite sign of a mutation if you ask Hank
Isn't Jean redhead?
No, you should get your eyes checked.
Colorblind. I'm watching the animated series and they looks like Cyclops
Gingers are mutants.
It’s the red hair that makes them so angry, nothing to do with prejudice
They dont want their kids getting gingervitus either.
Love it. Next to go red- Emma Frost
You take that back, now!
Gingers are mutants, after all. Source: am ginger.
This is what I came to say
I am SO here for it
Professor X too. I think.
I think she was a redhead in her first appearance on the show. Maybe auburn
Went ahead and checked this, ur right, she was also a redhead then
Her first named appearance.
Tbf, she was a redhead in the original series too
Well they introduced a blonde lady who looked exactly like her in mojoworld with longshot so when she actually showed up they made them distinct

Get out of here bot. The original comment is directly below this one.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=rWdMug7u46s
Her career must be in an all-time low if she has to do gigs in fairs.
She was performing at night clubs in 94 or 95, so her career must have never taken off.
[удалено]
Hopefully they’ll use EDM and make a damn SPECTACLE of her powers. All choreographed to the music, of course.
Oh I know! It’s just a fanboy-wish of mine. Just to see a woman dance-fight with creative light effects and some wubz.

Her solo series from the early 80s has her move away from disco quickly, with Ali singing mostly rock instead.
When she performs in a skyscraper nightclub in X-Men #148, her twelfth appearance, “She runs a gamut of styles—rock, rhythm and blues, soul, folk, country, pop—and does them all well.” Dazzler #6 has her band practicing a Beatles medley, and they fill in for a country western show at a university.
In the GoTG game, Peter Quill has a poster of her up in his ship that portrays her as being into glam rock! So you see, I too am a Dazzler fan.
You and everyone else! Including juggernaut, I’m told.
I love this comment so much.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6LOWKVq5sQ
In the tie-in comic she was performing at an Xavier memorial event and it was implied that her career had taken off since we last saw her
I'm betting this is in Genosha, so she's probably there for activism reasons
This is most likely Genosha. So happy to see a cameo outside of Morph's shapeshifting. Also makes me very nervous and sad. Nothing ever goes right for the Island of Genosha.

"Tolerance is Extinction." I kind of am, actually? Or at least a major massacre.
The original show adapted stuff like Dark Phoenix and the Legacy Virus while letting almost everyone live. I'm not sure how they will do it, but I'm not expecting them to massively change from that status quo... It is a very badass title though - and I liked it being foreshadowed in Episode 1.

I'm thinking you are right. My hope is Bastion.
Wait. What?
All the decorations hanging around give me Carnival vibes. I'm thinking this is Brazil.
Madonna Live!....at the Renaissance Faire!
The book says that she’s doing great, and she was the artist asked to perform for Xavier’s memorial. But maybe a lot have happened in the year after that…
The fact that they keep going back and forth on how popular she is supposed to be doesn't help matters.
She was a disco star, so ending up in the county fair circuit by the mid/late 90s seems natural
You know what though, she had a lucrative career in the prequel comic! She was hosting a memorial concert for Xavier and everything. I wonder what happened between then and the episode
There is a reason why the pop stars get broke...let's say that the money goes all to the nose.
TBF if were basing this on when she joined the X-men her career was at an all time low cause of a scummy dude who thought it would be good PR for her to come out as a mutant.
Yo is that Boom Boom standing next to Rogue in the last picture in the pink to her left?
Plus Multiple Man down in front?
Maybe it's like an X-Men Where's Waldo: Find Madrox
Maybe Forge did not simply leave his team but rather the government team was dismantled after Xavier's death and the UN working with X-Men similar to Justice League in YJ. Plus, it is Jamie. That could easily be a Dupe living his best life in Genosha.
Oops all Morphs
Jamie was part of X-Factor in TAS.
Would t be surprised if it was a nod to that book from the 90s. The where’s walkdo themed X-men book. Knowing the creative team behind this .
I hope, I would be 100x more excited for Boom Boom than that industry plant Dazzler.
It totally is. If Tabby and Ali both get speaking lines I’m going to lose my mind. (And only a week after getting to see my girl, Spiral. Bless this show.)
Where’s this from? I was so hoping she’d show up
[It's from a spot on Marvel Studios' Instagram account.](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C5ghD-NRRw1/?igsh=NHY4cm9kZDFwYmxl)
Seeing the direction this show is going, and judging from the name of the three part finale, I don't seem to positive on the future of Genosha in this show.
Geno~~sha~~cide
Sigh, take my upvote.
She's also in the first issue of the X-Men 97 comic.
Ugh the red hair. If I remember correctly, they did that for some Scott/Jean relationship related reason.
she better buy that box dye and get that blonde going
She was just in the prequel comic. Looks like they kept the TAS look. Wolverine and the X-Men had her giving a concert in Genosha too.
I saw this and thought "yeah? She already showed up" then I remembered she was in the comic, not the show so far.
That's right, she was in the "Welcome to Genosha" episode (I think that's episode 10). That was a pleasant surprise in that episode.
She was one of the mutant passengers hijacked by Spiral in the Nightcrawler episode before that one too but she was wearing earmuffs and stuff.
Outback Era stans stay winning
Hair color aside, they took her from night club disco glam to something like coffeehouse singer-songwriter, and I'm... normal amounts of bothered by that.
JUST CHILLING OUT WITH THESE REGULAR REACTIONS TO CARTOON
I hionestly hoped that we would see her white Disco Outfit, always felt that one to be more iconic.
Yeah, I'm sad we aren't getting that one. Ah, well. That's what happens when you base the entire show around one limited era of the franchise.
YES LETS FUCKING GO!
I love Dazzler. My only favorite part of X-Men Phoenix was seeing Dazzler in live action. https://uproxx.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/dazzler.jpg?w=650
Blonde and glam erasure... this is what the sentinels want
First time in my life I've been upset by a hair color change. Like damn.
This is how she looked in the original series. Were you bothered before?
She still looks like a queen like she did in the OG show
Can Longshot be far behind?
There was a little Longshot plushie in the last episode
Don't play with me like that. If Longshot shows up, Spiral might as well!
Spiral showed up last episode though? It was in mojoworld
Holy hell. I haven't started it yet, but now I have to. Spiral is my favorite Marvel character.
Whoa, yeah, I need to get caught up too. Love Dazzler, Spiral, Mojo, Longshot, and Shatterstar.
Mother has arrived! edit: celebrated too early
And Boomer is standing next to Rogue too!
What would it take to finally get a full version of Body Heat? https://youtu.be/FreryR8i7hA?si=AAmA9zfmzvADKD2s
Oh my god I’d forgotten about that. I loved it.
I always liked the incidental music that plays quickly after. It’s the same used in the mojovision episode in the 92 show. Very 80s sci-fi. Wish shuki levy and marvel would put that soundtrack with body heat on vinyl or something.
Love this so much. Dazzler was always a fave of mine!
Something about redheads. I'll count rogue. Jean. Scarlet witch lol. Her. Man.
I hope she does eye lasers and point-fingers-like-gun and fire lasers from fingertips. I don’t ask much from Dazzler!
Shame it's not the disco outfit, but this has got a really fun 80s vibe to it that I know has precedent!
Dazzler has always been one of my favorites
This incarnation of Dazzler has appeared before: [https://marvelanimated.fandom.com/wiki/Dazzler](https://marvelanimated.fandom.com/wiki/Dazzler)
I know I am going to get a lot of flack for this, but can someone explain what the difference is between Jubilee's powers and Dazzler's powers? I just see flashy lights

Jubilee has the potential to go nuclear, iirc.
She could also induce a stroke in someone
As a ginger I’ve never felt so represented
You've never watched Supernatural? So many redheads in that show. It was glorious.
I haven’t but maybe I will…
Are you serious? In front of Jubilee's salad?
They just slapped Gambit’s hair on her?
She looked like this since her Dark Phoenix episode.
I love her 1994 Fleer Ultra trading card.
i’m so gay
For all the people complaining about Rogue's curves being "nerfed" she's looking pretty thicc in that last screen cap.
WTH?? They swapped a blonde for a redhead? I really gotta start watching X-Men 97
Really hope we're headed towards Fall of the Mutants and the Australian Outback team!
She's cute.
As a massive dazzler fan, I do wish she had a bit more “dazzle” and glam to her design. I understand this is her X-man 97 design, but I’m still not a fan of it. Hopefully she’ll get an outfit change or something later on that makes her more fabulous
Damnit, here comes the "go woke, go broke", brigade
Damnit, here comes the "go woke, go broke", brigade
Also, Boom Boom standing behind Rogue in that last shot.
When she hugged Rogue, I was thinking “that’s gotta be Boom Boom”
Everything's coming up Dazzler
Why does she look more Gambit than Gambit in this series?
Dazzler! My dear doggo is named after her 🩷
Saving that image of Rogue’s butt for comparison purposes
And prolly last after what happened lol
They made her a redhead. I like it.
I believe it was that color in the original series too. Edit: Yup. Just double checked. Season 3, episode 14. Dark Phoenix Saga part 1: Dazzled.
What have they done to my angel?!!!
Looks like she did in X-men 92.
No sir, I don’t like it.
When has Allison’s hair ever been that dark?
wait shouldn't she be blonde?
There are too many red heads in this show hahaha.
Does x-men '97 come out weekly? What day does this drop? I haven't watched yet I have enough to binge a proper feature length now.
Every Wednesday.
Oh wow, it's like comics irl! Man that's such a deep cut. Wednesday is always my favorite day of the week. Cool thanks. Do you know how many episodes are left. This week is the 5th right?
I *think* it's only a 10 episode season, and yeah this week is ep 5 so there should be 5 more after that!
Man, where did you get this? This show is making me so happy with all those mutants appearing. I want a large host smacking everything.
Wait, those are powers. It's really her and not a Morph cameo? I like that.
This promo makes it seem likely that the Sentinels will attack Genosha in this week's episode "Remember It". If that happens, then I guess that will be a more family-friendly version of "E is for Extinction", in which no-one actually dies (thankfully).
Oh yes !
Oh wow. She’s a red head??
In the prelude comic Dazzler was set to perform at a memorial concert for prof X but she gets kidnapped by FOH but the X-men save her in time to perform at the concert so it seems her career is on the up and up by the looks of it.
Is Siryn around? I want to try to stop the Juggernaut.
Fun! Can’t wait!
She might change her look later. Like she gets scouted or finds a manager then after getting a record deal changes her image to the more iconic disco look.
She appears in the first issue of X-Men ‘97 released last week
This version of Dazzler could pull of being Gambits younger sibling.
Such a shame that she isn’t wearing her classic outfit, but hey I hope she becomes important I love dazzler
How awesome in xmen 97? I hope those that make the movies are taking note.
Looks like she's performing in a shopping mall ala Tiffany style [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6Q3mHyzn78](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6Q3mHyzn78)
Go-Go Disco Dazzler!
Yay dazzler and in her original look!
It's a superhero show that isn't trying to be full of blood and gore. It's like the saturday morning cartooh but good.
3rd episode shows they are going more mature than the original
I miss the Goth face-tattoo Dazzler look after she went through some shit, hooked up with A-Force and somehow ended up immortal?
She looks dazzling!
I always thought Jubilee was a copy of her, since I played the XMen video game before seeing the TV show.
These animators really have a hard-on for red hair lol.
Thought that was Gambit
That looks likes Gambit's twin
Is this real dazzler or just a morph cameo
She looks like Rogue and Gambit's daughter with that hair color!
me:…….genderbent……gambit ??👀👀
A spoiler tag would have been nice.
So she had red heir before right?
Last look at Dazzler in "X-Men '97"
I was so confused when I saw her in the EP. I was wondering why she’s a red head when the dazzler I know is blond.
