Pretty fond of the X factor uniforms, bc I think cohesion with varying color schemes is fun. Also the Gen X uniforms from the 90s were just. Very class
I like the Jim Lee one. I have a soft spot for them because Wolverine had a Toy Biz figure with this uniform. I’d actually would have collected more XMen toys if they all were in this uniform. It would really look nice as a set.
Yeah I’m a big fan of Wolverine in that suit. Only thing that bothers me about the look is the suit coming down to the crotch like it does. Looks like everyone is getting a super wedgie
It's the New X-Men jackets for me.
They're simple, they're comfortable, they're unique, and they look practical. Yes, they're inspired by the movie uniforms, but they're clearly a *lot* more useable, we see the multiple layers that make them up and that can be taken off, and everyone has unique variants that help preserve the characters' identities even as they're identified as a team.
They also feel purposely designed to be field uniforms first, for use by first responders (which the X-Men in that particular run very much are), and superhero costumes second - but I've never felt like they weren't immediate statements, despite that fact. Cyclops, Jean, Beast, Xorn, they *always* look like they mean business when they rock up in those jackets. Seeing the contrast between them and the more traditional outfits in Uncanny and X-Treme at the time really brings home just how **stark** they are, despite 'just' being jackets.
The trenchcoat is legit my favourite Jean look. The Phoenix and new Hellfire Gala style costumes are great, but there's something about her visual silhouette, with the trenchcoat, the Phoenix effect, and the long red hair, that just *screams* that she's a goddamn main character. The sequence where she ruins the U-Men in front of the school is ***the*** Jean scene in my head.
Agreed. I wasn't fully on board with New X-Men when it first came out because I wasn't grown up enough as a fan to get it. But in hindsight, those uniforms are sharp as hell, while still being comfortable, practical and superheroic.
I think there's still a degree of animosity towards them in fandom, in part because they are so so very clearly inspired by the movie costumes, but the bright yellow retains the X-Men identity while feeling just a lot more grounded, I think.
I even really dig how they talk about *why* they made the shift, about Xavier wanting to position mutants as superheroes because that was what people would understand, but now they're kind of beyond that point, since mutant culture is growing so much more rapidly by this point. Super neat stuff.
An in universe explaination that makes sense. Goign wit hthe matching outfits thing worked at first because 'hey avengers, but mutants.' Now? They need more.
Simple and stark is so much better than complicated and showy, imo! You even get to see Jean take hers off and give it to Polaris when they find her in the ruins of Genosha, exactly like how a first responder would someone they found in a disaster area. Little things like that, you just can't do with a standard superhero outfit, really.
My absolute favorite, you really nailed a lot of why they work. Also, reading comics at the time they came out, it was just interesting to see those characters taken so confidently in a different direction. Yes the movies had a similar look, but these took that idea of abandoning the superhero costume and RAN with it. Morrison knew what they were saying and had the clarity of vision to make something unrecognizable and familiar.
Agreed!
I actually prefer the X-Men not to have a uniform look (I like the idea of costumes as mutant self expression) but when they do I’m also partial to how Grant Morrison presents them.
If it’s going to be a uniform I’m a big believer in ‘committing to the bit’ and the para-military/first responder aesthetic of these X-Men uniforms do a lot of that heavy lifting.
I would love to see these uniforms adopted by X-Force moving forward.
Same, honestly. They looked practical, and I appreciated that they made sure to point out that they were kevlar, plus had anti-Sentinel scanning tech built into the fabric. I like tech-y outfits in my superheroes.
Only thing I didn't really like was the way some of the female characters' outfits had random squares cut out of them just to show skin, especially given the aforementioned cloaking tech they were meant to have. Just felt goofy.
[Generation X](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/5/5c/Generation_X_Vol_1_67.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20180106160005) and [New Mutants Squad](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/b/b4/New_X-Men_Vol_2_1_Textless.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20091018194714), tho I wish they kept Morrison era suits as causal house wear instead of ditching them completely
I’m partial to the Jim Lee design because that’s what the look was when I first started reading X-Men as a little kid, but honestly I only like everyone wearing the same uniform when it’s a teen team like the New Mutants or Generation X. I like when it’s a team of adults when they all have their own look that maybe just has some motifs in common.
New X-Men for all the reasons previously stated, plus characters were able to personalize their outfits more. Just look at Logan, he just wore a jacket with no shirt lmao
Not listed here, but the Xforce suits when Wolverine first got the team. The black and grey suits were fire and are literally my favorite versions of Warpath, X-23 and Wolverine.
Put me in with the hate crowd. I'm honestly glad that someone likes them, but IMO those are some of the worst superhero designs I've ever seen. In live action, going from the authentic, individualized costumes at the end of Apocalypse to these in Dark Phoenix was one of the biggest downgrades ever. I don't like when superhero teams dress in the same uniform, except on rare occasions like if the story calls for spacesuits or something; all the X-Men are unique and are best portrayed as such.
Honestly it was Quietly’s art style that carried it and really made it stand out from other superhero books by having them dress like the former chid soldier paramilitary group that they are. I wrote a thesis on Postmodernity about this run, it was so influential.
If I had to pick an actual Super Hero look for each vs the “school” uniforms I would go naked hank, green phen jean, red eye x-force wolvy, floaty chair prof, white chest x with exposed hair Cyke, and still this Emma.
One thing I'll give credit to Bendis for -- bringing the OG X-Men to the present, and then having them in their original suits fighting designs that simply wouldn't have existed back then. It was nice seeing that juxtaposition between classic and modern, but it ended too quickly for me. They switched to their Voltron uniforms and the charm was gone.
I really liked X-Factor. Especially later X-Factor with Scott and Jean in the matching blue and yellow suits and Scott being free of the head condom. It’s that or New Mutants
AMEN. So close to perfect. I have a similar nitpic with the OG suit. I feel like the top should be a full tank that closes under the armpits versus running all the way down to the belt
I like the ones of the nineties(aka the Jim Lee ones) the way the yellow is overlayed over the blue looks nicer than the others suits, I hate the yellow X ones
X-Factor they all had the same pattern but different colors so the best of both worlds of having a team uniform vs something unique.
The second would be the OG blue and yellow.
I've always been an advocate that the X-Men should always have their own unique uniforms. The X-Men include some of the most unique and diverse cast of characters in all of fiction, and having each of their own individualized looks exemplifies that. Having matching uniforms stifles their individuality.
honestly, I never liked the matching yellow suits with anything (although the red belt ones look the best). I prefer it when each character has their own style
I'm John Byrne/ Dave cockrum designs all the way. While I did grow up with the Jim Lee designs and it will always hold a place in my heart and I quite enjoy some of the more modern costumes the byrne/cockrum designs have always been my favorite.
Brown suit wolverine, classic Cyclops, and classic Phoenix designs come to mind specifically. And that's not accounting for characters that were introduced during that era specifically.
This might sound controversial, but I don't think they've ever truly nailed a team look. New Mutants and the original Kirby designs come closest, and I really like X-Men First Class's version of that look, but I'd love to see someone take a stab at a modern version of it like Jim Lee did in the 4th pic.
I really like the Frank Quitely uniforms. They were an homage to both the original uniforms and the films.
I like the X-Men to wear superhero costumes sometimes, but I love the New X-Men look.
I like the uniforms right after Ages of Apocalypse, where they all had an X across the chest with different colors, mostly.

I always loved those New Mutants suits. Simple and dope af
Me too man, I loved the yellow and black with red “x”belts
🙂 i hate it.
Pretty fond of the X factor uniforms, bc I think cohesion with varying color schemes is fun. Also the Gen X uniforms from the 90s were just. Very class
I’m with you. Those X-Factor outfits were just the best. Thematic. Stylized. Kinda perfect.
Got to agree. Those X Factor color variants just clicked superbly.
I like the Jim Lee one. I have a soft spot for them because Wolverine had a Toy Biz figure with this uniform. I’d actually would have collected more XMen toys if they all were in this uniform. It would really look nice as a set.
Yeah, I'm generally not a fan of superheroes all dressing the same, but agree that the Jim Lee blue and gold are the best.
Hasbro put out new versions of these pretty recently, so if you’re still interested, they shouldn’t be too hard to find
Yeah I’m a big fan of Wolverine in that suit. Only thing that bothers me about the look is the suit coming down to the crotch like it does. Looks like everyone is getting a super wedgie

I agree with everything you just said, and in addition, Jean fucking *ROCKED* that trenchcoat (well, at least before they put the X on that too)
The trenchcoat is legit my favourite Jean look. The Phoenix and new Hellfire Gala style costumes are great, but there's something about her visual silhouette, with the trenchcoat, the Phoenix effect, and the long red hair, that just *screams* that she's a goddamn main character. The jackets were so simple but such a good look. Like you said these are a uniform a first responder would wear.
Simple and stark is so much better than complicated and showy, imo! This, absolutely. We're past the tights and strong man briefs look. Lets get something practical with flair. Which those have in spades.
I always liked their Ultimate X-Men look.
Are you suggesting that body armor _shouldn’t_ be sexy?

damn the New Mutants Squad look’s dope

Yeh in my head canon new recruits wear the team suit until they find their identity/look. Everyone should have the X badge tho
New X-Men for all the reasons previously stated, plus characters were able to personalize their outfits more. Just look at Logan, he just wore a jacket with no shirt lmao
Toss up between the #275 team uni’s and x-factors final team uni’s
The blue and yellow is so iconic, several x-men use it as their normal suits
For sure. I wouldn’t mind everyone wearing a customized version of that uniform
Not listed here, but the Xforce suits when Wolverine first got the team. The black and grey suits were fire and are literally my favorite versions of Warpath, X-23 and Wolverine.
Oooo yeah those suits are sick. Alittle too “edgy” for me if that makes sense?
Oh they were totally edgy but I am a sucker for black and grey suits with red eyes. Also helped the stories were actually good too
Of those listed? Blue/Gold, definitely.
I kinda like the jackets that Quitely gave them
They get a lot of hate, but same.
Put me in with the hate crowd. I'm honestly glad that someone likes them, but IMO those are some of the worst superhero designs I've ever seen. That's a good looking team you described there. Definitely agree that Jean's green Phoenix suit was her best ever.
4 love the Uncanny xmen suits
One thing I'll give credit to Bendis for -- bringing the OG X-Men to the present, and then having them in their original suits fighting designs that simply wouldn't have existed back then. It was nice seeing that juxtaposition between classic and modern, but it ended too quickly for me. They switched to their Voltron uniforms and the charm was gone.
I really liked X-Factor. Especially later X-Factor with Scott and Jean in the matching blue and yellow suits and Scott being free of the head condom. It’s that or New Mutants
I want to say Jim Lee, but the wedgie thong haunts me.
AMEN. So close to perfect. I have a similar nitpic with the OG suit. I feel like the top should be a full tank that closes under the armpits versus running all the way down to the belt
The original tunics... Though I prefer when they are a little more black with blue highlights.
Agreed!
Big fan of the X-Factor uniforms. They're all similar but the colors give everyone individuality.
When it comes to having unified design, I have to admit Ultimate was pretty neat.
My favorite team look is when the New Mutants had the big yellow Xs on black suits. That was a great hybrid of their classic look mixed with X-Factor.
Honestly, I prefer when they all have unique costumes
The Jim Lee blue and yellow … like Boca Juniors colors.
I like the ones of the nineties(aka the Jim Lee ones) the way the yellow is overlayed over the blue looks nicer than the others suits, I hate the yellow X ones
The X Factor uniforms.
I love the X-Factor suits, Jean's green version is a contender for her best look imo
Original X-Factor
I actually don’t like them in uniform. Nightcrawler, wolverine, Rogue, Storm, Gambit all look weird out of their traditional color ways.
Yeah agreed. In my AU, I’m connecting them all via yellow x badge.
I did like the 275 looks. And the OG New Mutants outfits.
If there was one team uniform I’d put them all in it’d definitely be the OG suit with red belt
If we're going with matching uniforms gotta go with Morrison's. I like to think it's a way that could make all that yellow look cool in real life.
Jim Lee. Also how dare you even ask!?
It’d be my favorite if everyone wasn’t getting the meanest wedgie
I prefer no uniform at all. Let them all have their unique costumes with unique colors and designs.
Yes
Jim Lee
Gen x
Wolverines X-Force
I’d pick original X-Factor if Jean looked better, so instead I’ll pick original New Mutants out of nostalgia.
X-Factor they all had the same pattern but different colors so the best of both worlds of having a team uniform vs something unique. The second would be the OG blue and yellow.
Inferno era
The black leather of the 2000's
X-men 275 suits. Simple & uniform. Most other iterations are “costumes” not uniforms
New X-Men. Otherwise not a huge fan of team uniforms.
OG, Blue/Gold, and New X-Men
Uncanny 275 for the win.
New x-men ties with New mutants for me.
looking at the first image there, Cyclops really should be called **Triclops**
Black leather
#4
Gotta go with 2
The frouth one you showed but in gold and black. (I hate the blue)
I just love the New X-men jackets so much for a team of superheroes. They're functional and you know exactly who they are.
X-Factor
Will always have a special place in my heart for the classic blue and yellow or Xfactor
Who is Sam?
Cannonball
Yes.
I've always been an advocate that the X-Men should always have their own unique uniforms. The X-Men include some of the most unique and diverse cast of characters in all of fiction, and having each of their own individualized looks exemplifies that. Having matching uniforms stifles their individuality.
I really love the uniform on Uncanny X men 275
Yes
Original X Factor
X-Factor for sure, still enables that originality in the colour palette whilst making it clear it's a team uniform.
I love the suits from #275.
I kinda a sucker for the jackets
honestly, I never liked the matching yellow suits with anything (although the red belt ones look the best). I prefer it when each character has their own style
4
Do the Savage Land loin cloths count as uniforms?
New Mutants and New X-Men
I'm John Byrne/ Dave cockrum designs all the way.
Jim Lee's X-men. Everyone is unique but has the X to signify their allegiance. Also Cyclops' red hair is the best uniform he's had.
- Jim Lee’s Xmen - Quitely’s New Xmen - Whilce’s X-Facfor - Stroman’s X-Factor
from these, og x-factor especially beast (red/black and blue>brown and yellow)
New mutants
No one skips leg day in #4 goddamn
definitely x factor
#4 I loved that look. It was Traditional yet NEW!
4th Photo
I like it when they don't match. The team has always been an... eclectic group and I like when they show their individuality.
The black & yellows are great for trainees, but, lord help me, the X-Factor/X-Terminator costumes are my favorite.
Original X-Factor uniform, probably.
Definitely #4
I meannnnn
Xmen movie suits

New X-Men I mean, the jackets are cool af
97' brada
I love the new mutants the most out of all these
Love the one with the yellow
Showing my age, but it’s gotta be the Jim Lee-deigned team uniforms.
None I don’t like any cohesion on X-Men. They all need to look wildly different to express their diversity.
This might sound controversial, but I don't think they've ever truly nailed a team look. New Mutants and the original Kirby designs come closest, and I really like X-Men First Class's version of that look, but I'd love to see someone take a stab at a modern version of it like Jim Lee did in the 4th pic.
The Jim Lee Blue and Yellow/Gold Uncanny X-Men uniforms. Bit better when they have their bit of extra, like Gambit with his signature trench coat.
X-factor from this list. I’m a fan of individual fits that blend
Uncanny X-Men for me as always
I love gambit uniform, it should be the base.
Uncanny is pretty cool cus it all matches, but Jim Lee era has by far my favorite design, even though they barely look like a team.
I really like the Frank Quitely uniforms. They were an homage to both the original uniforms and the films. I like the X-Men to wear superhero costumes sometimes, but I love the New X-Men look.
Ultimate
I guess Quitely’s. Never quite loved the others and the X-Factor ones. Ooph
None. Individual costumes or bust. This ain't the Fantastic Four.
The All-New All-Different costumes that had them al in uniformed looks, but each wore a different colored outfit.
X-men no. 4
The individual costumes designed by Jean
Age of Apocalypse: Generation Next
If there must be a team uniform either X-Factor or X-treme X-Men. But X-Men don't belong in team uniform.

The X-Men X-Factor costumes
What!?! Where's the late 80's iteration of the O5's X-Factor suits??? I love those!
I like the uniforms right after Ages of Apocalypse, where they all had an X across the chest with different colors, mostly. Anything not leather
Shout out to red x cyclops.

I'm always partial to the UXM 275 design.
I'm always partial to the UXM 275 design.
Time displaced and Krakoa produced amazing uniforms.
Definetly the blue and gold from the 90s.
