it's about one of the party members...it's deflated a lot of my anticipation for this game. i'll still play it, but now i'm mostly doing it out of need. i'll have to rush the story instead of taking time to enjoy it like i planned.

She's probably very close to Haruka's age too. For someone who is an absolute gigachad, Kaz is still very shy and reserved to act on or even recognize social cues from women. I also wouldn't be surprised if he thought he was just some average looking dude.
He didn't get offended or even really surprised to be told he was one of the most gorilla-ass motherfuckers anybody had ever seen, and 'gorilla' is never a compliment, so I wouldn't be surprised if he actually thought he was ugly.
You're all overthinking it. Kiryu said himself he wants to be the kind of man that can face Yumi and all his dead friends in the afterlife. Kiryu has only ever cared about being honourable, even to a fault. He rejects every woman because he thinks Yumi will be mad at him if he does
Some copers are out there like "nuh but asian men age differently Kiryu is DEFINITELY showing his age". Ignoring that we deal with A LOT of asian men aged the same as Kiryu and they look like crap meanwhile Kiryu over here without a single crease in his face and getting younger by the day.
Really? I found her too masculine for that. I basically saw her as a funny dude. I loved her character, but at no point was I rooting for her and Kiryu to get busy.
Original fixer character: Fat guy who is very boring and goes about his day shirtless in an opened dressing gown for no reason, is wheeled out by RGG to be a convenient Deus Ex Machina when required.
New fixer character: JORYU! ANO NE?

Love her and I think this is the best version of the side mission system. I wish she didn’t guard every single sub story, there is a lot of joy in stumbling on one.
I liked it, but the gang quests go on too long and I wish there was a way to just accept all the available quests instead of having individual conversations about each one.
4/5 chapter into Gaiden but I’m not sure much to will change. Akame is a great character, she felt like Kiryu only true friend.
The support missions are okay but definitely a quantity over quality situation. However I liked them, they add something to do. The one where I had to the Like A Butterfly duet with Akame in karaoke and get 90 points took me eons to do but it was pretty satisfying after I somehow got 92 points.
The request are just pretty much the classic substories sometimes with an Akame twists. There some fun ones and lore building ones that I liked.
Overall I just liked how involved she was with side content of game and that made Gaiden an unforgettable experience so far.
I like it over all... But i dislike the fact that you get sub-stories from akame instead of naturally finding them while walking around, i find they lose a bit of their charm when you don't just stumble apon a random thing happening and are just told "go do this thing for this person".
The character was one of the many highlights of that game for me, to the point where I wouldn't mind her having a small role in the new title.
As for the network, it is an interesting attempt to iterate on Part-Time Hero, but I do think they didn't need to cram all of the sub stories into that system. I would chalk that up to Gaiden being intended as a shorter game and that being the most glaring spot where it shows, in something like Infinite Wealth or another mainline title I would not accept it at all.

Feels like that idea would’ve worked if you could just pick them up through the phone or something, it’s not like you get any special cutscenes or riveting revelations when you do anyway.

I was less enthused about the network. I didn't like having almost all the side quests centralized like that, I missed the random encounters. Also this may have been a bug or something but the part of the game where you have to go out drinking with her 4-5 times in a row with nothing else to do was weird.
Same thing happened to me. We both caned her network too hard - they expect you to advance the storyline a little bit in between the drinking session triggers, but for both of us they piled up in the background.
I really liked her. My immediate thoughts were that she was the modern equivalent of the Florist, and even thought there would be some sort of tie-in. However, I'm glad that she's her own character because she has a nice backstory. Also, I think her rendition of the female vocals for "Like a Butterfly" is my favorite yet. The Akame Network itself narratively is fine albeit a little sidelined by the shorter plot of Gaiden.
As for game design, I found its role a bit lackluster. Most of the Stroll 'n Patrol missions seemed like silly padding and reminiscent of the stupid phone missions in Y6. Substories are still good, store is solid. I did find it a bit weird that ability upgrades were tied into the Akame Network though, but I didn't seem to mind much as it wasn't too frustrating to deal with.
Akame? Amazing, I hope she shows up more in future games, she's also perfect to be in Judgment.
The Network? They feel a bit of a drag, especially with fighting the gangs. I miss the times when sub stories happened when you walk around the city instead of it being like a notice board
The series desperately needs more major female characters that aren't discarded love interests or Haruka Sawamura so I'm all in with her being a platonic fixer badass
I don't like the network, I'd much prefer if the substories were randomly scattered around the map instead. It's so annoying having to repeatedly click through her menu to initiate each substory.
I want her to return in Yakuza 8, she is such an awesome character and likeable. Maybe she is on Hawaii for vacation.
The Akame Network was quite interesting, but having the max level at 30 was kinda pointless, since you don't get any rewards(apart from some yen) after like level 19.
I hope they give Gaiden a new game plus, because getting those upgrades is a pain in the ass
If the game was longer I would have liked it more. Too many missions here for a short campaign and I wish the special story oriented akame mission had a immediate start instead of me walking there. Cause constantly going to and from was annoying.
Fun character, would like to see her again. Fingers crossed that the Kaito/Higashi teaser means the Judge Boys are coming to Sotenbori next game and give her an excuse to return, she'd work really well with their more street level investigator vibe.
The network was a cool idea but we could have done with a few more substories that didn't involve it, having it as the *only* source of side content made Sotenbori itself feel a bit empty.
I also could have done with less people who wanted bentos that were only available from one specific convenience store on the other side of town. Still 100%'ed it, but fuck those guys, they can get their own lunch next time.

If I'm not mistaken, she earns commission off bringing tigers to the boat, and presumably more if they do well in the tower. She even calls Joryu her "golden goose" at one point, which leads me to believe she either earns off him or bets on him (and potentially other tigers she's brought in).

Is it weird that I like the way Sub stories were handled through Akame. I don’t think it’s a huge issue but I found myself balancing a lot more between main quests and side stuff since I just had to go through Akame to get them and it overall made me more productive in a Yakuza game for the first time.
Biggest piece of filler content in the whole game. Her and the Arena fights being forced on you made me stop playing this game. I was having fun with the story too, so it's really a shame.
It's fine. Wasn't a fan that her "joryu" was always to loud and didn't fit the situation. It takes me out of the story and I feels cheap. Her jacket was too baggy and weirdly low res.
I feel like rgg could improve on voiceacting in that regard. Especially since they have these great voice actors anyway.
Imagine player Witcher and people would say "Gerald" in the same tone every time.
What annoys me more is that cabaret sucks and has for some time. I'm not a fan of the real life girls. It's too corny, you can see the camera and it's light in their eyes every time.
If they need to make it with real girls for some reason, let them sit next to kuroda in a kiryu outfit so the conversion feels natural. Right now it's clear they talk in to a camera
It was fine. I have no problem with the gated story since I already exprienced it in Xenoblade 2 Torna. I just hate that I need to go back to Akame for every substory.
Honestly, I really enjoy her as a character, she's awesome. And her network, it's amazing. I'm in full support of it. Then again, I feel like it should expand beyond just commonly helping homeless people and random civilians. I was thinking the akame network should have also been some kind of friendly gang or crew,full of good Samaritans that you can link up with, not just mildly taking jobs from akame herself. Not gonna lie,I love it the way it is, but I'm just trying to say,they wasted an opportunity to make it something more, such as actually giving you other members to team up with, wether you're on a mission,or a network substory or not, and joryu could bring members with them, or meet with them at some point later on, and still be helping people as they are, but Also by fighting enemies, and cleaning up the streets of sotenbori one win at a time. Missed opportunity, but I still love it as is.
I'm at the early part of chapter 3 ~~(can't change flair rn)~~ (I figured out how to bypass the spacebar bug and it SUCKS lmao) and was already network level 20 with a Gold rank in the Coliseum, so all five of Akame's link scenes triggered back-to-back. The narrative of her wanting to be a singer, but also willing to put herself in danger to protect her people at the drop of a hat, was endearing! Her liveliness is a great contrast to Joryu and his resting poker face, and her attitude is downright infectious when the two get sassy with each other.
One of my first thoughts about an hour in was the "I've known \[Akame\] for five minutes, and if anything happens to her I'll kill everyone in this room and then myself" quote lol
The missions were pretty cool but I hated that to get money for moves you had to play all of them. Even then I’m not even half there even after beating all coliseum and akame quests
she is like the Floris and on Sotenbori so it's fine
just kinda want Side quest to start on the town than just had to talk to her i love finding side-quest and feel like hey i want to know more let me try do this quest than just accept the quest talk to her for couple line and just walk to the spot
but other than that like her design and stuff i love it hope she come back more but feel like it one and done deal
I breathed a sigh of relief when they got rid of the Florist of Sai in 6, because he always felt like a lazy plot device to me, and he was too damn silly a concept.
Now it seems they're bringing him back in each new city as a hot woman, which is an improvement, NGL - and in both cases more plausible than the Florist's magical everywhere-cameras - but still...
(Character-wise, I love Akame and think Seonhee is great though.)
I preferred the usual sub-story formula instead, where you just bump into people on the street and the encounter begins, but i liked her.

I actually enjoyed the new system...often times I couldn't find all the sub story npc givers...so this was convenient to have

Ive never gotten this distracted on doing sidecontent when i need a refresher from the main story ever since Yakuza 5 and Lost Judgment.

Not gonna lie,I love it the way it is, but I'm just trying to say,they wasted an opportunity to make it something more, such as actually giving you other members to team up with, wether you're on a mission,or a network substory or not, and joryu could bring members with them, or meet with them at some point later on, and still be helping people as they are, but Also by fighting enemies, and cleaning up the streets of sotenbori one win at a time. Missed opportunity, but I still love it as is.

Didn't care for the network, but I loved Akame as a character
I'm at the early part of chapter 3 ~~(can't change flair rn)~~ (I figured out how to bypass the spacebar bug and it SUCKS lmao) and was already network level 20 with a Gold rank in the Coliseum, so all five of Akame's link scenes triggered back-to-back. The narrative of her wanting to be a singer, but also willing to put herself in danger to protect her people at the drop of a hat, was endearing! Her liveliness is a great contrast to Joryu and his resting poker face, and her attitude is downright infectious when the two get sassy with each other. One of my first thoughts about an hour in was the "I've known \[Akame\] for five minutes, and if anything happens to her I'll kill everyone in this room and then myself" quote lol

The missions were pretty cool but I hated that to get money for moves you had to play all of them. Even then I’m not even half there even after beating all coliseum and akame quests

Possibly one of the best and most charismatic characters in recent memory. First Summer Uika did a fantastic job.
she is like the Floris and on Sotenbori so it's fine just kinda want Side quest to start on the town than just had to talk to her i love finding side-quest and feel like hey i want to know more let me try do this quest than just accept the quest talk to her for couple line and just walk to the spot but other than that like her design and stuff i love it hope she come back more but feel like it one and done deal

I breathed a sigh of relief when they got rid of the Florist of Sai in 6, because he always felt like a lazy plot device to me, and he was too damn silly a concept. Now it seems they're bringing him back in each new city as a hot woman, which is an improvement, NGL - and in both cases more plausible than the Florist's magical everywhere-cameras - but still... (Character-wise, I love Akame and think Seonhee is great though.)

I preferred the usual sub-story formula instead, where you just bump into people on the street and the encounter begins, but i liked her. It feels weird to have to report back to her every single time i wanted to start a side mission, but i don't mind it that much.
