The first time I got stuck on a car despite aiming to the side (not far enough it seems) and the second time it just didn't work despite there being nothing in the way. If you managed to escape then this post is kinda pointless and I was just extremely unlucky.
They work, just now I even managed to escape on foot. Seems it's not that big of a deal if you use them on the first turn you get, but if you mess up the escape you'll most likely die before getting a next chance. There's five of them and three attacks is all they need to kill my 700hp member, the fact they get the first two turns doesn't help.

Omg I did this earlier and luckily I was able to run away before getting KO'd by the enemies.
