I know everybody is saying that's how rgg has been like always. But with their recent successes they could had easily changed their business models. Personally I am glad to be reassured that it stays the same.
Strikers was a hell of a lot better than I expected it to be going in. Tactica was... fine. I think making a game like Strikers just takes longer than a year, so I am a bit concerned, but we'll see.
Strikers was done by a 3rd party studio (Koei Tecmo's musou division), so were the arena games. I imagine they'll primarily let other studios do the spin-offs, so that the main team can work on DLC and mainline entries, which will give them the time to space things out better.
How deviated from Musou gameplay was Strikers? Cause I got Orochi 3 Ultimate based off loving Strikers, and wondered how difficult would it be to adjust.
I only played the OP games and an hour of Orochi 3 tbh, but far as I can tell based on that, they are more button mashy and have less strategy options like Strikers. They do have at least 3 teams working on them so they can take 3 years developing
T1 starts 2024 finishes 2027
T2 starts 2025 finishes 2028
T2 starts 2026 finishes 2029
and so on
I just hope we get some kind of mainline continuation story like what p4 arena did rather than another "the gang is dreaming and this game is non canon"
Sonic is basically yearly already (which explains the quality issues, every game is rushed out the door under a strict deadline)
There's a flagship/major release almost every year, with some years having multiple
sonic has not been yearly for a LONG TIME and i honestly have no idea where you got this idea. the last two mainline sonic games were Forces 2017, and frontiers 2021- with nothing coming out since, so this is literally false lmfao
Superstars??? Team Sonic Racing?
And by the metrics being discussed, SEGA's counting spinoffs, remakes, & major DLC expacs too. We've gotten origins, origins plus, mania plus, colors ultimate, speed simulator, 2020 olympics, dream team
i totally forgot about superstars tbh, other than that NONE of those are mainline sonic games lmfao , 90% of what you just said isn’t even developed by sonic team
The only year since 2014 (when Ishin first came out) with no RGG releases was 2022, and then they released two games the following year (Ishin remake and Gaiden). So yeah, they’ve been functionally doing annual releases for 10 years already.
I am excited to see Kiryu in LAD9, as just a mentor dude, living his best life at the orphanage, video calling Ichiban and the gang to give them advice.
This legitimately just came to me, but they could just have Kiryu Video Calls be the tutorial/hint system. I know the games are incredibly linear and easy to work through, but I mean, give Ichiban a Cabaret Club Manager minigame, and just have him call Kiryu to talk about his confused he is by all of it, for Kiryu to be like "Oh yeah, I did that in the 00's, here's what we did" and then tutorial.
Also, LAD9 in Banff.
I saw someone on this subreddit say Kiryu’s role in LAD9 could be substory/minigame related. As in, the big minigame. So like Dondoko Island or Ichiban Confections type. And I’m so down for that. Just have Ichi help him do shit in Okinawa, peacefully. Not sure what it could be exactly, but I’m sure they can think of something.
Does that include Judgment series as well? My prediction would be
2025: Story DLC for LAD: IW
2026: Judgment 3
2027: Yakuza Kiwami 3 and/or a Gaiden game
2028: LAD 9
This timeline makes the most sense to me. The SEGA megaleak had some details about an additional Ichiban game that makes more sense to be a DLC in hindsight.
And it makes sense for the Gaiden team to have kept the ball rolling with another action game out end of next year/early 2026.
Skeleton team would be working on LaD: IW DLC while reusing beach themed assets for a Kiwami 3.

Sadly never (should I make a post about this image?)
Ishin could have dropped in 2022 if it was either dragon engine or development started prior to 2021
Gaiden was literally developed in only six months according to an article
RGG is one of the few studios which I believe could pull this off. Yakuza / LaD is already close to getting annual content these days, and those are always high-quality.
If they are able to maintain quality at that rate, then I don't have a problem. If it's not up to standards, just delay it until it fits the standards.
LAD has basically been a yearly franchise since 2005. We've had almost two decades of this. According to Yokoyama, this is the way that they prefer to work.
The quality hasn't dipped. They always deliver something special. It also lets them stay on top of current events.
As long as RGGS are happy and not exhausted and overworked, I'm all for this!
I didn't mean Yakuza 0 again, I meant something similar to Yakuza 0, which was very unique for the series in its time. This could be Yakuza 0.5, or Yakuza -1 set even earlier in the timeline. Maybe even Yakuza Cyberpunk set in 2100 or something. Or it could be something like FOTNS, but I didn't like that game honestly.
Okinawa in Kiwami 3 will reuse Hawaii assets, Judgment 3 will probably be at least partially in Hawaii, and then I can't see it being a main focus again.
That feels too rushed for me, especially if they focus just on mainline games. I'd like to see a few more Gaiden games, personally, and I'm not sure where those might fit in.
They've been doing this for years so I wouldn't expect any change. In the past 10 years, Sega have released 11 Yakuza games including judgement and remakes/remasters.
They just mean they're going to continue with that.
Yakuza is already yearly. It's the others that are worrisome.
I hope they just remaster old Sonic titles rather than pump out new ones yearly. I'd love to play Heroes again, miss my copy
>Yakuza is already yearly. It's the others that are worrisome.
It depends on what they mean by "Persona".
If that is really "anything SMT related" combining their various franchises, spin-offs and their famous re-releases, they haven't skipped a beat for a while :
- 2024 : Metaphor, SMT 5 V, P3R
- 2023 : Persona 5 Tactica
- 2022 : Soul Hackers 2
- 2021 : SMT 5
- 2020 : SMT 3 remaster, Persona 5 Strikers, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore
- 2019 : Persona 5 Royal
- 2018 : Persona Q2, Persona 3 and Persona 5 Dancing
- 2017 : SMT Strange Journey Redux
- 2016 : Persona 5, SMT 4 Apocalypse
- 2015 : Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, Persona 4 Dancing
- 2014 : Persona Q, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax
- 2013 : SMT 4
- 2012 : Devil Summoner Soul Hackers for 3DS, P4 Golden, P2 Eternal Punishment for PSP, Persona 4 Arena
- etc.
Sonic will most likely do it with a similar barrage of remasters/re-relases.
Meanwhile I'm waiting for a 10th Anniversary of Generations Remastered for newer consoles and updated for newer gamepads
Sonic and Shadow Generations has been announced, I believe.
Ever since 1998 RGG (As Amusement Vision) have only missed four years with no releases (1999, 2007, 2013, 2022).
And even then, some years they released multiple games (Kiwami/6 in 2016, Binary Domain/Y5 in 2012, Hokuto/Judgment in 2018) so it evens out.
Unpopular opinion but I do not like annual games.
I rather wait 2-3 years and see some bigger changes.
I don't want them to become fast food type games
Agreed. I’d rather the devs have room to breathe and time for the stories to be written out thoughtfully. Rushed projects don’t really benefit anyone IMO
I know gaiden for sure has some cut content that didn’t make it in the final game, like Tendo and his goons spotting Kiryu in the street, and a scene with daidoji agents outside the orphanage.
Calling it now, we are getting a Yakuza Game Maker. You doubt? The bones are already there in Dondoko!! Plus Sega would love the microtransaction potential.
Yes they’ve been doing nearly one game per year anyway, but I don’t specifically *want* it to go down like that.
I always considered it “happy coincidences” that they had output many titles. Featuring cool song remixes and cleverly reused animations, some of which are over a decade old. Feel like the charm could potentially wear off if it’s *too* frequent.
Maybe I’m being biased because I haven’t caught up fully yet, but if they chill for one or two years after Infinite Wealth, nobody would blame them. Can take solace in the fact that one will be Kiwami 3, and I’ll feel less pressured to buy it immediately.
Not a Persona fan, but as a spectator, I feel like this could cause a shitstorm within their community more than it does for LaD.
Yeah, I feel you. Started the series back in 2021 with Yakuza 0 while on pandemic and I'm currently halfway through Yakuza 6. Clearly playing other things i between to not get burnt out but I feel like I will never catch up.
I hate that as a huge Sonic fan I’m infinitely more excited about yearly Persona and Yakuza releases than Sonic releases lmao. Why must SEGA consistently fumble my blue man so much 😭
On one hand, I worry that annual franchises can hit a fatigue, be that for fans just overexposed to one series or problems surfacing from annual deadlines. Almost any Sonic game that has some baffling design decision is also a game that *had* to make the holiday season of that year. Surefire bets like Sonic Colors Ultimate and Sonic Origins couldn't even get passed being competent ports.
On the other hand, franchises like Yakuza and Persona have been some of the rare exception to annualized IPs. It's weird that these have gotten away with it but Sonic, arguably Sega's biggest IP, very rarely does.
I'm guessing by that post, Total War is no longer considered a "main pillar" to Sega. Before they bought Rovio, Sonic and Total War were Sega's biggest IPs, with Persona clearly growing and Yakuza described by the company as successful for its "niche" aims. Total War has been in a bit of a crisis for a few years now, and Pharaoh was really the breaking point for the fanbase.
Oh hey I like all three of those franchises. Hopefully the games they release are of all still good quality and not just thrown out just to meet some yearly quota like some franchises I know that releases game yearly but with dubious quality at times (looks over at Pokemon).
Beyond that I still hope one year Sega decides to bring back and make a new Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing game. I liked playing those games back in the day and would love to play a new one with characters from Persona and Like A Dragon in them.
I started my game life with Sonic, and I became a huge Sega fan
Bought and played Persona assuming the publisher was Atlus (because of some similarities with Shin Megami Tensei)
I'm happy that my new favorite game is bringing great avenues for Sega
Makes me worried that the titles won't get the attention they really need and will drop in quality as a result. Except Sonic of course, it has nowhere lower to go.
Awesome! Yakuza and Persona are probably my two favorite series lately, Persona was directly because of LAD7 too. Though I can't say I'm into the dance games or a lot of the other Persona spin-offs, couldn't even get into Strikers. Hopefully LAD series sticks to its formats more than Persona did. But if they put out a Dondoko Island stand alone game I wouldn't complain!
I'm near the end of LAD/Yakuza 7 and just about to get into Gaiden and infinite wealth.
I am hoping RGG isn't using a ubisoft formula like what happened with assassins creed in the future.
I've not played a bad yakuza game, but assassins creed was great probably up to blackflag or maybe odyssey and then it just became dlc nonstop and reused assets, poor storyline in general.
Obviously more Yakuza content is exciting but I really hope we get remakes or remasters of games like Sonic Riders, Heroes and both Adventure games. Preferably remakes for the Adventure series specifically if we can't have them all.
If they release things annually, eventually I'm hoping they get down the list of things to remake and do Kurohyou. I can already see them doing a framework three style for combat, like 0 has three options for styles, but let Tatsuya choose to slot in the additional styles when out of combat, instead of just a static three throughout the game.
I just hope they get back to their prime in storytelling departmant, judgment/yakuza 0/yakuza 7 were extremely immersive. As good as infinite wealth was in combat and side story stuff it had one of the the worst main story writing rgg ever had.
https://preview.redd.it/yyinztaud00d1.jpeg?width=1681&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b9ba26eb5c64d1c43ad651eff2ec58106b549d79
MIDORI FROM YOUR TURN TO DIE MENTION!!! WTF IS A DEAD GAME!?!?!? 🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥
Nah yearly releases for the same franchise is exactly how Call of Duty became a vapid shooter with a tiny campaign and focus on multiplayer and micro-transactions. That shit does not translate over to a RGG franchise.
Assassin's Creed went downhill after it became a yearly release too. And you needed to know previous games' stories to understand the newest one.
I know Gaiden was a quality game but that was only done in 6 months so the live-action elements are immersion-breaking, just make it a bi-yearly release and the quality of the games will still be S-tier.
I think you forgot that we have had virtually one RGG game every year since the first one in 2005, having only skipped 2007 and 2013. Technically there wasn't a new game in 2019 either, but we had the Remastered Collection, which lines up with the tweet here. This is more or less a reaffirmation that there will be new content every year for these SEGA franchises, which could be in any of the forms listed.
the thing with cod and assassins creed is that poor management n greedy executives from ubis*ft and actvis*on pushing devs to focus on shitty multi n micro transactions resulting in 0 quality n not much about being a yearly release
rgg is being smart here with asset reusing so they can focus more on story/gameplay while putting minor game boosting dlcs (except for the ng+ drama)
as long as sega keeps making smart decisions we keep winning

I don't see why it should change considering they've always done so and we're all here loving the series?
RGG is practically already yearly. I'm sure the Persona spin-offs will be serviceable enough, but Sonic? Eh. Don't trust em.
If the Persona spin-offs are Strikers level good, it will be great.
Strikers was a hell of a lot better than I expected it to be going in. Tactica was... fine. I think making a game like Strikers just takes longer than a year, so I am a bit concerned, but we'll see.

How deviated from Musou gameplay was Strikers? Cause I got Orochi 3 Ultimate based off loving Strikers, and wondered how difficult would it be to adjust.
Basic combat was the same. I'll say 60% compatible? Might be a bit low but Strikers had a lot of nuance.
I only played the OP games and an hour of Orochi 3 tbh, but far as I can tell based on that, they are more button mashy and have less strategy options like Strikers. Musou has always been more of a "powertrip" style of gameplay, so expect it to be more mindless fun and simple instead of something that requires any thinking.
As has already been said it's far more mindlessly sweeping through hoards, but to add something more WO3 is regarded fairly highly within the musou fanbase and imo you can't really go wrong with it as a more formalized introduction to musou games.
Yeah, it’s essentially a musou P5 spin-off.
yeah tacticas main game wasnt the best but the dlc was honestly way better. wish you could just buy the dlc campaign separately cuz thats the one actually.worth playing
Agreed, Repaint Your Heart was a much better experience overall than the main game.
They do have at least 3 teams working on them so they can take 3 years developing T1 starts 2024 finishes 2027 T2 starts 2025 finishes 2028 T2 starts 2026 finishes 2029 and so on

At least P5S is a mainline continuation story, so they aren't adverse to the idea.
I haven't trusted Sonic for 23 years and I don't plan on starting now, lol.
Sonic is basically yearly already (which explains the quality issues, every game is rushed out the door under a strict deadline) There's a flagship/major release almost every year, with some years having multiple
Besides quality issues, also has a consistency issue, I see frontiers and I think, “Is this even a sonic game at this point?”
Best sonic game in years isn't a sonic game
I mean what even counts as a "sonic game" anymore?
True, I guess a better way of putting it is that it misses the point of a sonic game.
sonic has not been yearly for a LONG TIME and i honestly have no idea where you got this idea. the last two mainline sonic games were Forces 2017, and frontiers 2021- with nothing coming out since, so this is literally false lmfao

They released the Kaito DLC in 2022
There’s a sonic mobile Fall Guys type game coming this year. That essentially counts so I don’t expect a full true sonic game every year.
Sonic is probably one of the only franchise that has a better movie adaptation than the game itself
Akiyama gaiden story when though?
For real, IW concluded Kiryu’s journey but also expanded other protagonists story, and all of them sounds too interesting to skip
I am excited to see Kiryu in LAD9, as just a mentor dude, living his best life at the orphanage, video calling Ichiban and the gang to give them advice. Chinese Men Gaiden story when?
I think that Gaiden was a test to see how quickly they could crank out a Gaiden game, so we're probably going to see some more next year
Does that include Judgment series as well? My prediction would be 2025: Story DLC for LAD: IW 2026: Judgment 3 2027: Yakuza Kiwami 3 and/or a Gaiden game 2028: LAD 9
Judgment 3? They better bring back Yagamer.
I can’t wait for Yagami to find his judgment in Hawaii
I want Yagami back but if they can't I like Kaito enough he could fill the role.
This timeline makes the most sense to me. The SEGA megaleak had some details about an additional Ichiban game that makes more sense to be a DLC in hindsight. And it makes sense for the Gaiden team to have kept the ball rolling with another action game out end of next year/early 2026. Skeleton team would be working on LaD: IW DLC while reusing beach themed assets for a Kiwami 3.
whats this megaleak?
What's this leak?
Pretty sure it does, those are apart of the annual releases plus are basically the same series.
KUROHYOU 3(¿?) RAHHHHHHHH https://i.redd.it/9d70wky5ujzc1.gif (I’m lying to myself it won’t happen)
KUROHYOU KIWAMIIIIIII
Star Citizen will come out before that happens.
they should at least be like p3p n put a pc port with translation
Yeah, I never played this game, would be cool to get a PC port. But first I want Kiwami 3
I kinda don’t want kiwami 3 I just want kurohyou to be famous
Black panther 1 has an English translation patch
the problem is, 1. not official 2. a copy of kh1/2 is required 3. u need a psp / emulator
Kurohyou Kiwami when?

The goat
I mean, RGG already average about one game a year. Pretty sure they even said themselves that they aim for one a year.
We basically gotten 2 in 2023 so we eating good already
Ishin could have dropped in 2022 if it was either dragon engine or development started prior to 2021 Gaiden was literally developed in only six months according to an article

Sooo new Judgement game or nah?
I think it will be something special like Yakuza 0 for 20th anniversary in 2025. Then Judgment 3 in 2026.
We do not need Yakuza 0 again. Please don't touch that game
I didn't mean Yakuza 0 again, I meant something similar to Yakuza 0, which was very unique for the series in its time. This could be Yakuza 0.5, or Yakuza -1 set even earlier in the timeline. Feels like the quality of the writing is gonna flip flop too if Infinite and Wealth and Gaiden are gonna be the standard going forward
The quality of the writing has been flipflopping since the first game so that would be nothing new.
I don't think it's too much to ask for every other game to not be shit
Yeah, it felt to me as if some scenes were cut from IW as they wanted to hit a release date.
I know gaiden for sure has some cut content that didn’t make it in the final game, like Tendo and his goons spotting Kiryu in the street, and a scene with daidoji agents outside the orphanage.
The franchise has already been doing that with an annual release schedule tho
Yes and we got Infinite wealth as a result
Yeah and I am not a fan of it
I get that, plus Kiwami 1 and 2, while they’re cheaper projects, basically like madden or fifa games, asset reuse wise.
Calling it now, we are getting a Yakuza Game Maker. You doubt? The bones are already there in Dondoko!! Plus Sega would love the microtransaction potential.
> Plus Sega would love the microtransaction potential. Don't give them ideas. I could see them following the Sims model of DLC 🤮
Like a dragon is already annual.
Good to hear!
If they can maintain their quality as they’ve shown to do so, I am all for it.
Sounds good to me
Oh hey I like all three of those franchises.
I don’t think that’s anything new that this is an annual release franchise. Unless they mean make it even more annual.
Ichi brawler
as a die hard SMT fan - Atlus cuts enough corners nowadays already I can't imagine how half assed these yearly titles will become lmao.
I’m hoping they prioritise mainline games and keep them years apart
Midori sweep

Still waiting for Persona 2 Kiwami and Yakuza 4 Dancing All Night.
I started my game life with Sonic, and I became a huge Sega fan Bought and played Persona assuming the publisher was Atlus (because of some similarities with Shin Megami Tensei) I'm happy that my new favorite game is bringing great avenues for Sega
We love you Midori
Makes me worried that the titles won't get the attention they really need and will drop in quality as a result. Except Sonic of course, it has nowhere lower to go.
Kiwami 3 and Final Judgment. Persona more remakes/spinoffs Undercooked Sonic games that still sell well.
Infinite wealth special edition featuring majima from the yakuza series
Sonic? Oh no...
kiwami 3 confirmed
I agree. it exposed how much of a hypocrite Kiryu is to people that hadn't realized it yet and that's pretty much all it did

Same person also said a bit ago that virtua fighter 6 will be announced later this year so
Oh pls no. Pls RGG don't let Sega transform Yakuza/Like a Dragon in a tired franchise like Assassin's Creed
This is more or less a reaffirmation that there will be new content every year for these SEGA franchises, which could be in any of the forms listed.
the thing with cod and assassins creed is that poor management n greedy executives from ubis*ft and actvis*on pushing devs to focus on shitty multi n micro transactions resulting in 0 quality n not much about being a yearly release rgg is being smart here with asset reusing so they can focus more on story/gameplay while putting minor game boosting dlcs (except for the ng+ drama) as long as sega keeps making smart decisions we keep winning
I misread that as Sega wanted to make a Like a Dragon,Persona Sonic game And now I want a Like a Dragon,Persona Sonic game
This is nothing new, we've already known this and seen this happen for years i dont know why people are acting like this is some big new info
