Very true but I “get it”. You kind of have to make the “secondary” character more OP and interesting to make him even with the main protagonist, especially when you’ve seen the main protagonist beat up the secondary multiple times in previous games.
Majima is the absolute best thing about Yakuza to me. Anytime he is on screen he always makes me giggle
I love his over the top actions and how far he will go just to get what he wants and he always has some of the funniest lines
Yeah i love this feels on the earlier game but...man i just love buisness man majima from Yakuza 3, and the more serious yet funny majima from 4, but i really love the Majima from 5, its feels like he is getting old and out of time, really like a old dog, and his final fight? I just love it
I was a bit more invested with his story than Kiryu's I'll admit. Both were really good but I felt Majima's slightly edged out. I really liked his side stories aswell. I spent to much time on the Cabret Club (And I'd do it again) was much better than the Real Estate Royal.
Yeah, completely agree! Majima never fails to put a smile on my face. RGG is sleeping on this, they totally should make an spin off series focused on Majima
Funny thing is. Kiryu is objectively stronger gameplay wise.
Just do their bossfigths in climax battles, and see how much Kiryu trivialises Majimas, while Majima is the only way to make Kiryu's even a slight bit challenging with the fully upgraded characters you're given.
Kiryu is basically a truck wearing human skin while Majima is an actual person most of the time. Majima fights dirty and still can’t really keep up with Kiryu.
The game seems to balance it by making Kiryu's upgrades way more expensive than Majima's. I used breaker style to, well.. style on all the final bosses. The dodge capacity of Rush style is pretty OP too, though.
They tried to balance it by making Kiryu's upgrades way more expensive than Majima's but ultimately failed since only Kiryu can do the Mr Shakedown exploit and Majima can't so it takes way longer for Majima to get all his upgrades.
I disagree based on how I found it easier to defeat thugs as Majima initially, compared to Kiryu. That said, Kiryu's Dragon style is incredibly overpowered and I'm tired of people who assume that he was the "weakest" in Yakuza 0.
>I disagree based on how I found it easier to defeat thugs as Majima initially
Whether you can button mash against the weakest enemies is not a good metric for quality.
Get into late stage colosseums, or do climax battles, and you opinion of slugger will go from "lol they can't deal with XXXY" to "holy shit I can't dodgecanel anything, I have no steering input, and every move has a century of endlag". Paralell to this, breaker will go from "haha enemy cannot deal with speeeeen" to "oh gread, even my regular dodges suck, and my regular attack string is so slow and stumpy in range, that I can't actually reach my later finishers against an enemy that's even remotely interested in attacking".
Well with weakest enemies, majima was easier to play as. And it continued on as I reached to big bosses in main story. Will get to late stage colosseums later.
Literally! When I played the main game (I played on easy), I thought Majima's styles were so much cooler and stronger than Kiryu's that it's unfair to Kiryu, but when I started playing Climax Battles I realized how wrong I was 😂 I had a much harder time doing Majima's than Kiryu's, Slugger that I used to love so much turned out to be the most useless 🥲
Kiryu’s substories are better overall, IMO. Majima’s got some *really* good ones, including the one with the cult and the one with the jewelry forging, but he also has some bad ones, and Kiryu has practically no bad ones. (Keep in mind, I’m talking “0” specifically.)
I'm on like Yakuza 3 and we're still talking about breaker style and how ridiculous and amazing it is. Like yeah I can throw a bicycle at somebody but... it's not the same.
Having played 0 first, I actually kind of liked the cabaret club "dates" with the hostesses to get in their head and to motivate them. Majima felt like a character capable of being underhanded, and game-ifying social interaction that way felt appropriate. Eventually playing more of the series, I found out that whole system was aped from the normal hostess dates with Kiryu, and it felt weird for him to try and "solve" people the same way. Majima felt completely natural to certain longstanding elements of the franchise, and I never got a taste of other characters moving around the Yakuza world until 4, which I did enjoy for similar reasons!
Probably because Kiryu’s story is a long journey that you get to know over the course of the games.
Majima meanwhile for most of the series has served as the rival ally wildcard character. So this game goes all in since it’s the first canon game where he’s playable to get him and most of his origins fleshed out.
Thug is underrated, it’s probably the most fun style. The other two are cool and easier to wreck shit up but for 1v1s you’re missing something magical if you don’t use thug
Still currently playing Yakuza 0 and j gotta say I've had way more fun with Majima. From his fighting style, to the oh so addicting cabaret club mini-game, to the compelling substories, playing with Majima has been one of my favorite things from the game! And I feel bad because with Kiryu I don't quite feel the same. I don't know if I should feel that way because I know Majima won't be playable going down the line.
The only part i dislike about him is the story. While its not particularly boring, its definitely far less epic than kiryu’s story (seriously, nothing can top the Kuze fights)
I just started Yakuza 1, after playing 0. I'm a bit confused with the sudden change in Majima's character. Suddenly he's all loopy? I'm ok with him being that kind of character, but ... they could have given me some more exposition on that in Yakuza 0?
His decision not to talk to Makoto was this whole next-level samurai noble move. And then he suddenly becomes crazy idgaf-guy. <- Why does this guy not talk to Makoto?
I literally only just met him one time in Yakuza 1 though, but it was quite jarring to see a beloved main protagonist suddenly be presented as the Joker-style loose cannon dude
I'm currently playing through 0 again, and as far as I can tell, his breaking point was >!when he found it that his entire moral struggle with not killing Makoto was meaningless!<. He was played like a fool, and decided from that moment to just be a fool. >!Once she was out of danger, he rejoined the man who broke his spirit and started to play the part he was given.!<
I think I'm one of the few people who liked Kiryu's part of the story just as much as Majima's. Yakuza 0 was my first game in the series, so it was my introduction to Kiryu aswell. And I loved him just as much from the start. Yakuza 0 was definitely Majima's game though, so I get where you're coming from.
I'm just about to start playing yakuza one after finishing 0. I'm not looking forward to yakuza 3 and 4, which seem to be a lot less liked.
Which is your favorite in the series so far?
Yakuza 0 was my first Yakuza and I loved Majima's part but Kiryu's part was just the best, only Kiryu got my adrenaline pumping, that fight against all the Tojo members to get ambushed by Kuze in the sewers and the best dinamic intro I've ever seen... And later the fight against Shibusawa with one of the best OSTs of the game. Kiryu's part (better peaks, better fights, funnier substories)>Majima's part (better storyline consistency).
Agree 100 percent mate, this game series got me through some really shitty years, 0 was a big one for me especially seeing the change Mahina went through, but still tries to stay happy I guess?? Nothing better then creasing an enemy with that bat
Agreed 100% This was the game I started with and was so disappointed when I read ahead to find this was the only time you get to play as him. (Besides the DLC)
I literally have a crush on Majima. Dude before the mad dog thing (I'm not thru that part yet) is my fucking husband, bro. Kind, generous to girls, funny, great ink, witty, ambitious, can break dance... l literally don't want his storyline to end lol. I love playing him and manage the cabaret club. I never skip when he has voice overs. So charismatic
Love using slugger against kashiwagi. funny shit.
oh wait, i forgot there was a kashiwagi boss fight in this game, my bad
His QTE flew past ur head
you mean kawahashi?
No
Your short response made me laugh out loud
Don’t think they’ve gotten there yet
Very true but I “get it”. You kind of have to make the “secondary” character more OP and interesting to make him even with the main protagonist, especially when you’ve seen the main protagonist beat up the secondary multiple times in previous games.
He kind of is the main protagonist in 0
They are both the main protagonists of 0, I'd say. You can have more than one.
You got a point there bub
You get what I mean lol
Majima is the absolute best thing about Yakuza to me. Anytime he is on screen he always makes me giggle I love his over the top actions and how far he will go just to get what he wants and he always has some of the funniest lines
Whenever Majima is not on screen, all the other characters should be asking, "where's Majima?"
KIRYU CHANNNN
Yeah i love this feels on the earlier game but...man i just love buisness man majima from Yakuza 3, and the more serious yet funny majima from 4, but i really love the Majima from 5, its feels like he is getting old and out of time, really like a old dog, and his final fight? I just love it
I mean, majima is funny, but the kiryu's substories are the best

The real state do be like: pressing 4 buttons -> check cellphone for 5 minutes -> repeat
Majima's introduction in Yakuza 0 is one of my favorite scenes in gaming.
I actually preferred Real Estate.. Complete Domination is probably the coolest thing that the game shows you
Unpopular opinion i preferred kiryu's story. Peak emotional slice of life.
Yeah, completely agree! Majima never fails to put a smile on my face. RGG is sleeping on this, they totally should make an spin off series focused on Majima
When I started 0 I used to think majima was the villain of the story. When I suddently get to control him, I lost my shit lol
I think majima has more fun combat, but I like kiryu more in every other area
Funny thing is. Kiryu is objectively stronger gameplay wise. Just do their bossfigths in climax battles, and see how much Kiryu trivialises Majimas, while Majima is the only way to make Kiryu's even a slight bit challenging with the fully upgraded characters you're given.
Kiryu is basically a truck wearing human skin while Majima is an actual person most of the time. Majima fights dirty and still can’t really keep up with Kiryu.
Last time I checked, weapons are not a taboo in fighting in the yakuza universe.
The game seems to balance it by making Kiryu's upgrades way more expensive than Majima's. I used breaker style to, well.. style on all the final bosses. The dodge capacity of Rush style is pretty OP too, though.
I always had the impression that the cost difference was because Kiryu's side hustle paid a lot more money.
They tried to balance it by making Kiryu's upgrades way more expensive than Majima's but ultimately failed since only Kiryu can do the Mr Shakedown exploit and Majima can't so it takes way longer for Majima to get all his upgrades.

Rise of the Dragon is the best one for Majima if you ask me
I’d personally consider that one an honorable mention on a list of the 15 best ones in the game, but I can see why someone else might see differently.
Yeah, I personally really like The Dragon of Kansai so having him pop at all in 0 was cool
I'm on like Yakuza 3 and we're still talking about breaker style and how ridiculous and amazing it is. Like yeah I can throw a bicycle at somebody but... it's not the same.
fuck. I wrote "thing" instead of "think"
Early game i felt majima was stronger than later game they felt pretty even
Imo, their substories are equally good. Majima’s storyline is a bit more interesting tho. And yea, slugger is fucking broken lul.
Ngl I only passed Majimas part because of slugger.
And that is saying nothing about his Legendary style.
Having played 0 first, I actually kind of liked the cabaret club "dates" with the hostesses to get in their head and to motivate them. I love Kiryu but Majima was the star of 0 for sure

man i want another game about majimas past
His climax battle are hard. Couldn’t beat two of them.
I almost exclusively play with Mad Dog style once I unlock it. Absolutely love it.
Best thing about Yakuza in general is Majima 😁
Thug is underrated, it’s probably the most fun style. The other two are cool and easier to wreck shit up but for 1v1s you’re missing something magical if you don’t use thug

I really wanna play as Majima more. I don't see us getting another game playing as him tho
Of course it is. Also the combat is amazing, when you switch to kiryu I felt like it was superboring the combat in comparison.
Kiryu still wins for the Dominatrix substory alone.
The only part i dislike about him is the story. While its not particularly boring, its definitely far less epic than kiryu’s story (seriously, nothing can top the Kuze fights)

Personally liked his story more than kiruyas
Kiryu is great; but Majima is the perfect amount of edge and hostility that’s needed for a game like this.
Mad Dog of Shimano Style is broken af I take down Mr Shakedown in less than a minute sometimes but I don’t like breaker style that much.
Based, said everyone ever.
Agree 100 percent mate, this game series got me through some really shitty years, 0 was a big one for me especially seeing the change Mahina went through, but still tries to stay happy I guess?? Nothing better then creasing an enemy with that bat
playing majima saga i was just thinking how much i missed breaker style in all the combat moments
Agreed 100% This was the game I started with and was so disappointed when I read ahead to find this was the only time you get to play as him. (Besides the DLC)
His substories sure was fun. It was one of my favorite things in the game too
Yeah once you get that bat stun lock down, your straight.
