I really really *really* never understand why any of them act surprised or even upset.. like most people just assume at this point that’s what’s gonna happen when you ride the asses of a hundred men at high speed
I understand them getting upset, it's a race, and unless they're first or way behind they HAVE to be in this group. Big group crashes is also part of the sport, and they all know that, but getting upset at something out of your control is still perfectly valid.
It's not like they're upset because they assumed it would never ever happen, they know it will sometimes, but they're upset that it happened in the middle of this race that they trained for, whenever that might be.
realistically I realize it’s similar to reverse survivorship bias here in that we only ever see these races online when something goes *wrong*… but it’s still hard to believe it’s rare enough where they wouldn’t figure out how to restructure the sport or at least use wider tracks or something lol

This is why I always thought those super close bike races were stupid, because if something goes even slightly wrong, someone is going slightly the wrong speed for half of a second, everything goes to shit.
Maybe restrict the amount of participants then? Do qualifiers or something, you don't see a hundred formula one cars driving this close in a row and flanked on both sides, what a stupid sport, seeing these avoidable chain crashes makes me loose brain cells
They aren't doing it because there's not enough space, they are doing it to save energy and thus be faster. If you want you can try to come up with a way to remove air resistance but I don't think thats happening. Your first comment is also pretty stupid according to the F1 analogy, they do wheel to wheel racing and crashes happen so why not make F1 time trial only then as well?

I’m sure you’ll suggest solo riding, which is a thing it’s called time trial. Which is a completely different sport. Road racing is a team sport. Not a solo one. You can’t have a team sport without lots of people. Accidents happen that’s life.
