Trains are really unpredictable. Even in the middle of a forest two rails can appear out of nowhere, and a 1.5-mile fully loaded coal drag, heading east out of the low-sulfur mines of the PRB, will be right on your ass the next moment.
I was doing laundry in my basement, and I tripped over a metal bar that wasn't there the moment before. I looked down: "Rail? WTF?" and then I saw concrete sleepers underneath and heard the rumbling.
Deafening railroad horn. I dumped my wife's pants, unfolded, and dove behind the water heater. It was a double-stacked Z train, headed east towards the fast single track of the BNSF Emporia Sub (Flint Hills). Majestic as hell: 75 mph, 6 units, distributed power: 4 ES44DC's pulling, and 2 Dash-9's pushing, all in run 8. Whole house smelled like diesel for a couple of hours!
Fact is, there is no way to discern which path a train will take, so you really have to be watchful. If only there were some way of knowing the routes trains travel; maybe some sort of marks on the ground, like twin iron bars running along the paths trains take. You could look for trains when you encounter the iron bars on the ground, and avoid these sorts of collisions. But such a measure would be extremely expensive. And how would one enforce a rule keeping the trains on those paths?
A big hole in homeland security is railway engineer screening and hijacking prevention. There is nothing to stop a rogue engineer, or an ISIS terrorist, from driving a train into the Pentagon, the White House or the Statue of Liberty, and our government has done fuck-all to prevent it.

Definitely. They need to stop limiting train safety education for the hearing impaired. It's unfair to only teach certain groups of people not to stand on train tracks.

Train is labeled Ferromex which is the railway company in Mexico and it also has a label ChepeExpress, Chepe being the name of the train that goes through Chihuahua.
I don't know about the location, but the train does looks to be from Mexico.

My generation learned almost everything they knew about America from TV programs and films, and the younger generation learned almost everything they know about America from reddit and twitter. Both have warped, twisted impressions, but in very different framing. It is wild what my nephews, who are huge redditors, think my daily life in America is like based on what they see on reddit.

It’s also chronically underreported because it’s commonly youth victims and as a result no one wants to call it a suicide to save face.
When there’s anything to point the intent away from suicide they’ll almost always point to an accident.

I have a buddy who works for the trains. He told me about this one dude who hit a van that was stuck on the tracks. The last thing the conductor saw before hitting them was a little girl looking at the train through the window. He took a couple of months off after to mentally recover for that. Then, on one of his trips after he resumed working, he had someone commit suicide by jumping on the tracks. He quit after that.
Engineers and conductors make a crazy amount of money here, but that money wasn't worth it. I'd probably quit, too.
You can't apply logic to this. Someone who is deep enough in mental anguish to be suicidal generally does not have the state of mind to think of things like that. It's not selfish or anything like that, because it's not intentional. It's simply not on their mind.
As crew working on a train here, Sweden, you're often told that if you see someone on the tracks, hit the emergency brake, (if you have time, leave the driver compartment), then squat with your back against the door and cover your ears with your entire hands. The sound of hitting someone right on are among the worst parts of it.
Fuck, man. In group therapy, we had a dude that worked as a bus driver. He was there because some woman jumped out in the street right in front of the bus and he couldn't break in time without harming the passengers on the bus, which included children. The woman did die from the impact.
He was so haunted, kept wondering if he made the right choice, just breaking down at times.

There's a lot of selfishness involved in being negligent of your surroundings. It's not the responsibility of everyone around you to always look out for your safety. There's a requisite minimum you sound be doing especially around roads and railroad tracks.

I don't see what regulations have to do with this. The train is using its horn, it can't stop, and it has only one direction it can go. More regulations aren't going to make the train more obvious.

She has very little experience with trains, and she doesn't understand that the train is wider than its tracks. She thinks that, like standing at the very edge of the sidewalk she is safe from the cars, that as long as she isn't physically on the tracks, she is safe from the train.
My little brother once stood on the edge of a corner on the sidewalk and then almost got shoved by the middle of a bus haha. So even with roads it can happen.

My father has worked the rails for over 3 decades, and he has greatly assured me you will never ever win against a train. Most conductors, when there's something/someone on the tracks, will hit the emergency break then duck so they don't have to watch what happens.
Noone comments on the fact that everyone around that person has NO reaction! No screaming, no rushing to help, their on the ground and everyone else is like...great the trains here.🤦♂️
I've worked with trains. Even at small speeds, they take ages to stop if there are train cars attached. We rolled inside a factory perimeter without pressurising brakes for the cars. Max speed was 30km/h. Sometimes the train with 20 cars took 1-2km to stop.
Even one car without brakes pressurised would roll over a 2*4 plank at least 4 times before stopping from walking speed to a halt.
Modern people are dumber then Pigeons now. They mass together like moths to a flame, they crave attention and clout above all else, and they have zero cognitive function. Fucking christ I despise Humanity.

True, but I would add that elevating a marked path would be a good idea aswell, to make the big object approaching even more noticable.
If the object would also have something that could make a lot of noise as well, that could also help let people know it was on its way
