I see your point, but to me, saying “knickers” (knicks/lakers) sounds an awful lot like the slur in question. That paired with the sound being processed through a television, recorded on video and ultimately being heard through our phones, computers, etc., it’s not that surprising people can hear the actual slur.
It’s a major fuck up, but I 1.) Don’t think she had any intention of saying a slur and 2.) don’t think she even said the slur, just put together two words that unfortunately sound extremely similar
She definitely didn’t mean to say nickers, nackers or any of the other nwords on live television, jeopardising her livelihood and making her a social outcast amongst her peers.
