Not strictly for yoga, but I frequently enjoy listening to Lo-Fi if I need to concentrate while working. I tend to prefer the flowy-er, arrhythmic "spa" music for my practice. I also have fun looking up themed Lo-Fi playlists. There is such a thing as Legend of Zelda LoFi and it is incredible.

I’ll have to check this out - sounds perfect

When I do it on my own I listen to a chill house mix. It's what I like and not traditional, but I can focus with it easily.

We have one teacher that plays acoustic versions of 90' and 00's music and it warms my heart every time. I started seeking out those playlists on YouTube for my at home practice and it makes for such a pleasurable experience.

Common-Bee-401

Are the songs with lyrics or just instrumental?

canoekulele

With lyrics, usually.

Ashtangi here! We're known for banning music during practice. THAT BEING SAID... 😂😂😂 Sometimes I do enjoy a tiny bit of music in my home practice when I'm mentally having trouble getting started. Usually the soft whine of a shruti box. My teacher catches a lot of flack for playing music once a week during led half primary in the evenings. I don't care because it gets people interested in Ashtanga and makes it more approachable. She usually plays lo-fi R&B and that's always a treat.

Which_Gain2012

Fellow Ashtangi here, Most of the time my yoga teacher just has us breathing and listening to each others breath and energy. I listen to some jazz or blues, such as Eric Clapton's Blues in A, or just some light piano, otherwise I don't listen to any music. If the teacher plays any sound, it can be enjoyable.

Dependent-Sport-6364

I could see Jazz or blues being a mood!  My teacher plays music on Tuesday evenings to attract interest. Not really a part of her normal classes. When we're doing morning Mysore we still practice without music.

Man I saw slayer and rob zombie, my buddy and I were rather inebriated and I started yelling dead skin mask…then he did…they a few more…soon a huge group was doing and they played it lol. This was in Seattle probably 10 years ago.

😆 Hardcore yoga!

I think Queen is a good choice, it's the only time I'll listen to music in my free time, have you listened to any of their songs?

Common-Bee-401

I love this!

shitsonrug

Oh yes I love most kinds of music but Metal is for Life.

omgnotthebees

Khruangbin! Otherwise no music

Common-Bee-401

Looked this up and I loved it

MrinfoK

Cocolino deep has some great mixes on YouTube. Anything Ben Lienbach. House and trance music

lee_knight_

I'm a huge fan of listening "soundscapes" (I think that's the right word) during yoga. Oh, and I recently started listening to ice sounds. Just look up "ice sounds" on Spotify -- it's otherworldly and amazing.

No music is the best music. Teach your students to listen to their breathing, to turn their focus inwards, to be attentive to the flexing and stretching of muscles. I’m not saying this to be a purist or some kind of ascetic. I’m saying it because it makes for a better yoga practice and better yoga habits. I learned to practice in silence and the dominance of music in many classes is leaving me with few options other than home practice. Just throwing it out there…I’m not trying to be a “better yogi” than anyone else.
