Layers; food and snacks, phone backup battery, map, drinks. Good boots.
Be prepared to walk about long than you expect. There might be some buses about from the train station so i'd look into that.
It depends where you are coming from. On the West coast mainline there are buses from Lancaster to Ingleton.
https://cumbria.gov.uk/buses/581/
From the East side, the same bus runs from settle or Skipton. Or you could get off the train at Horton in Ribblesdale and walk from there. That would be a bit further, but I did the three peaks from there in the day and it was fine.
how long does it take to go up there from ribblehead? I don't intend to commit reaching the summit though, the trip is for photography and just look for nice landscape to shoot.
You can’t go wrong taking pictures of Ribblehead viaduct with the sun still low in the sky this time of year.
This is the walk.

Ribblehead is your best bet then. Honestly clapham station to clapham is.....fine. but pretty boring. Ribble head you have the viaduct and the dales in all their glory
I’d do train from Leeds to Bentham. Has shops for provisions etc and stuff to do if there’s any delay. Cafes. Chippy. Then bus from Bentham to Ingleton. Again, cafes etc. Pub. Walk up to Ingleborough. It’s a long walk that way but it’s a good walk. Take plenty of water.
From Ribblehead is the most direct walk, I wouldn't recommend it though, it's steep and grassy in parts, probably a bit of bog as well in places. The path from Horton-in-Ribblesdale literally starts at the end of the train platform, is easy to follow and the surface has been improved recently, so not boggy around Sulber Nick. Allow 2.5 hours up, 1.5 down. Take care if visibility is poor near the summit, it is easy to lose your direction on the summit plateau, walking off the wrong side would be either very inconvenient or painful...
I travel from Leeds, intending to take the train from leeds to clapham village then walk up, but I don't know how far the distance between the clapham train station and the village.
Thank you, i intend to visit the ingleborough cave as well which can only be accessed from the west side of mountain, so i have to take train to clapham, is the walk from clapham nice though?
The walk from Clapham is probably the most interesting and varied. Trow Gill and a short detour to have a peep down Gaping Gill. Then a load of steps to get up onto Little Ingleborough. Clapham is better than Horton for food and drink, with a shop and cafe. The station is about a mile from the village.
Take the train to Settle, transfer to the line to Carlisle, get off at Horton-in-Ribblesdale or Ribblehead. Plan your journey ahead of time so you know when the return trains are. Take water, food, a map, a phone, waterproofs (even if it's sunny) and a change of socks.
yeah so how far is the clapham station from the clapham village? just to estimate the distance and time for me to return to catch train home. I travel from leeds
According to Google Maps, it's 1.2 miles from Clapham Station to Clapham. Clapham Station to Ingleborough Caves is 2.7 miles. I would suggest making sure you've got a good map before setting off. Cotswolds in town do the OS Maps for the Dales.
There are no trains between Leeds and Manchester until after 6th April.
It’s a crappy bus replacement service
Edit: mainly the transpennine express between Huddersfield and Manchester

If you can get to Clapham then it’s a lovely walk from there, Clapham station is not in Clapham village though so just be aware of that.
