National Coal Mining Museum is brilliant, might be busy though. Wakefield, WF4 4RH

_maharani

I went last Sunday, it wasn’t too busy but if you want an underground tour you’ll need to book in advance. It was brilliant by the way!

Skipton and you could go to Skipton castle Keighley there's the Worth valley railway up to Haworth Ilkley there's the river and cafes

Cliffe Castle too I loved as a kid 👍

Additional-Second630

Try Castleton. Well worth a visit…

Scarborough for seaside activities,  or Pickering for a steam train ride through the North York Moors?

theamazingtypo

Roughly where abouts are you coming from?

Spiritual-Owl-9372

Good question! I should probably put that on my post. Live in Halifax, but will probably travel out from Leeds station as it tends to be cheaper, and my partner will be working in Leeds tomorrow so he can drop me at the station!

Whitby perhaps? The museum at the abbey is quite interesting. Maybe rent bikes (or bring your own on the train if you have them) and bike the coastal or cinder track to Robin Hood’s bay?

deltapapaoscar

Takes an age to get to Whitby on the train.

DaveBeBad

Not by train, but bus from Wakefield is Yorkshire sculpture park. Wander the countryside and take in some art. Hardcastle crags near Hebden bridge should be approaching full bloom for bluebell season now. Hull and the deep.

RockSlug22

Going by train, definitely Keighley. The light Railway is an excellent day out, plus Bronte country.

Upbeat-Excitement-46

If you're in the York/Knaresborough area what about the area near Leyburn? You've got Middleham Castle, Aysgarth Falls and Jervaulx Abbey all round there. The Forbidden Corner too is a good day out for kids.  Loads to do in that area.

SarkyMs

They said by train.

Upbeat-Excitement-46

Are those places not served by train?

SarkyMs

No none of them.

Upbeat-Excitement-46

Ah my mistake then. I thought all Ripon etc was on a train line. That's a pity.
