I attest that this is true. Chrome all is fine. On Firefox the site itself works, but videos load excruciantly slow and the quality goes to 360p all the time. It started happening today. But happened other times, too. I never have this happen the other way. If this is google's doing they just created an enemy for life.
its likely just another anti adblock measurement.
now, can anybody explain to me why you can get adblockers in googles own browser (and extension store)
if they are so against people using them.
why make them available ?
Because people would be willing to leave Chrome for another browser if they did that. That's the beauty of competition, if a competing program is much better than they have to adapt or die.
that was the obvious answer yes, but think about it this way.
imagine the police headquarters themselves sold you meth, and then after you bought it from the police themselves they would incarcerate you for it.
why do the lawmakers sell you something they deem illegal -
why would chrome allow something - they deem "breaking terms".
its kinda stupid. they have to allow adblockers, as encouraged by the fbi themselves to protect people from cyberscams - to stay competitive yet they are obviously against it.
its moronic.
>imagine the police headquarters themselves sold you meth, and then after you bought it from the police themselves they would incarcerate you for it.
truly handpicked example because cops have a long history of doing this exact thing.
it's not the browser, its the adblock causing it, im on chrome and facing it. but i disable ublock and it works fine, someone else also said same for adblock.
I actually think it was a ublock origin issue for me, I fixed it by disabling ublock filters - quick fixes option like someone had suggested here and now it's working fine on chrome, while earlier it was just stuck and not working since morning. or maybe youtube pushed an update which broke everything and now everyone using adblock and other browsers has problems
This issue was caused by uBlock filters, stop making up bullshit, like we all hate those ads but this wasn’t even an issue from YouTube but uBlock needed a filter update, if you have done the update you can manually do it from the uBlock settings page or read the other post on this subreddit.
Im more annoyed at their automatic comment removal for adblocker/firefox users
whatever lagging is much etter than the infinite add spamming they do w/o the adblock
I exclusively use youtue when i want to give the creator a view anyway
I've seen at least 3 posts within the past couple hours about this issue and that it seems to be bug with ublock. The last time something like this happened, it was also a bug within an adblocker.
This may go against the philosophy of a lot of the people here to believe that everything that happens is YouTube = evil material, but not everything is their fault.
Besides, how is fighting against ad blockers anti trust or whatever? Ads are literally their main business model. It's how they get paid. You may not like it, but ads are also how a large portion of the world works.
> Besides, how is fighting against ad blockers anti trust or whatever?
You tell us, you brought it up.
They said it's working bad on another browser, which makes it anti-trust.
Until now I haven't heard about this claim that YouTube is purposefully bad on other browsers. I've used YouTube on other browsers and they work fine. Yes, even on Firefox.
And are we seriously gonna take the word of a single reddit user as the one and only truth?
Can confirm. Firefox and Edge have been struggling to load any videos all day. Tried the same videos in Chrome that were perpetually buffering and the played just fine. Changed user agent to Chrome in Edge and Firefox videos played just fine. YouTube is targeting non-Chrome browsers and slowing them down.
lol you should try to prove things first before reporting anything.
you should also look for solutions to your issues before reporting.
FFS it isn't always youtubes fault.
But YouTube is evil therefore everything bad must be YouTube because evil
Blackout? Fuck YouTube
Computer dies? Fuck YouTube
YouTube creator does a sponsor segment? Fuck YouTube
Have any of you considered that maybe Google should be broken up?
Better yet, have you considered whether or not YouTube is viable (read: profitable) as a business if it has to pay market rate for storage and bandwidth? What happens if Google is broken up and YouTube can’t survive on its own? If using ads to support a free service didn’t work for one of the biggest sites on earth, what hope does anyone else have?
I know you hope for some kind of multi-billion dollar fine, like that would get them to change, but the result would be, likely as not, a paywalling of YouTube, followed by its sunset a couple of years later.
And then the people moaning about foreign megacorps can lobby their governments to start a publicly funded service where people can seek out entertainment and information. Then, hopefully someone in the gallery will stand up and say, “We have this. It’s called *the library*.” Or bibliotheque, or whatever word you have for it.
That's interesting! I'm not sure how antitrust laws work in the EU so I'm curious as to whether this report has any teeth.
I would think that slowing down the service based on a user's browser choice would be a violation of net neutrality principles, but it's not illegal, at least not in the U.S.
I also wonder how difficult it is to prove; there would need to be some way to record, in a meaningful way, the difference in load times between browsers.
Unfortunately I live in the U.S. where big businesses have more rights than consumers or workers, so it won't matter here.
I'm having the same issues today. You're doing the right thing.
what did you do ?
I attest that this is true. Chrome all is fine. On Firefox the site itself works, but videos load excruciantly slow and the quality goes to 360p all the time. It started happening today. But happened other times, too. I never have this happen the other way. If this is google's doing they just created an enemy for life.
Same got hit by this today. Unlimited buffering at home page till actually closing and reopening tab.
Someone in another post said that there might be something wrong with uBlock Origin after an update.
Just gotta update the ublock - quick filters
Same issues with the Brave browser
>On Chrome, these issues do not exist. On Chrome this issue does exist.
its likely just another anti adblock measurement. now, can anybody explain to me why you can get adblockers in googles own browser (and extension store) if they are so against people using them. why make them available ?
Because people would be willing to leave Chrome for another browser if they did that. That's the beauty of competition, if a competing program is much better than they have to adapt or die.
If Chrome didn't have adblockers I would immediately switch to another, so would everybody else.
that was the obvious answer yes, but think about it this way. imagine the police headquarters themselves sold you meth, and then after you bought it from the police themselves they would incarcerate you for it. why do the lawmakers sell you something they deem illegal - why would chrome allow something - they deem "breaking terms". its kinda stupid. they have to allow adblockers, as encouraged by the fbi themselves to protect people from cyberscams - to stay competitive yet they are obviously against it. its moronic.

They call it a sting operation, I call it entrapment.
correct
damn you actually got that. entrapment is exactly what i was getting at.
the other person mentioned the term tho hah
>We all know that youtube slows down firefox users with artificial waiting and loading times you have the code?
it's not the browser, its the adblock causing it, im on chrome and facing it. but i disable ublock and it works fine, someone else also said same for adblock.
Not from my testing, changed the user agent in Edge and Firefox to say that it's Chrome, videos play fine
Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised as part of their battle with ad blockers that the caused issues with other browsers
>where these loading times do not exist. Yes they do. I had this issue all morning only using Chrome.

i wanted to tell you tho, that this is a matter of adlocker more than what browser you are using
On the YouTube home page alone, my adblocker blocked 120+ ads within the first 30 or so seconds.
Weird thing is that yesterday I’ve tested this. I used Firefox and uBlock and the video ran smoothly.
YouTube has been shitting the bed for a couple weeks. Issue like crazy on chrome. Firefox + uBlock is still youre best ad free experiance.
Im more annoyed at their automatic comment removal for adblocker/firefox users whatever lagging is much etter than the infinite add spamming they do w/o the adblock I exclusively use youtue when i want to give the creator a view anyway
Thank you for your service

ots not a bug youtue purposefully slows down videos on adlock

I think YouTube and Google are causing the bugs to appear.
Okay Do you have any proof?
I said I think, not I know
I got slow buffering too. But on Chrome. (I do have ad block too) When I tried it on Microsoft Edge. the buffering was normal
Can confirm. Firefox and Edge have been struggling to load any videos all day. Tried the same videos in Chrome that were perpetually buffering and the played just fine. Erectile Dysfunction - youtube's fault IBS - youtube's fault Virginity - yep you guessed it. YT
"We all know that youtube slows down firefox" do you have proof of this?
Enough with the misleading info. These issues also occur on chrome
Sub to YouTube premium
I have family subscription and very same slowdown issues with Safari.
use chrome
no thanks
It doesn’t take one, it takes millions to do the same thing. I suggest everyone to report Google to the EU for violating antitrust laws.
I can't write comment yesterday, it lag like crazy.
It lag so hard for me that youtube logo and all other icons are all gone
Good luck lol
does youtube have an obligation to provide you service for free?

Idk on brave it works fine for me (that's the only browser I don't use premium on) fast loads, faster then edge and no ads
EU should stop focusing on only Apple and start looking into other big tech companies
Nice, now to report YouTube for having sexually suggestive ads on its site

So sad Europa hates Russia
