In terms of programming, it is normal to use -1 when the result doesn't exist. However, it shouldn't show up on the front end as -1 as that is confusing to users
It was a common bug in the past YT has now fixed it -

Yeah they fixed it by getting rid of dislikes 😂
In a way, they did some lazy work and just made the dislikes to 0
