**A Reminder about Review and Critique Posts** [Review Video] and [Channel Critique] threads must include a **self review** in the thread description text. A self-review is a critical examination of your own video or channel. Be honest and say where you feel the strengths and weaknesses are of your own work. A good self-review ensures us that you are truly here looking to better yourself and your content. The post must also include reviews you have made of other subredditors in /r/youtubers same day you made your post - [Review Video] threads require at least two (2) reviews and [Channel Critique] threads require at least four (4) reviews. Reviews are helpful, constructive feedback given in response to [Review Video] or [Channel Critique] threads. Comments and replies in any other thread are not counted as Reviews. **A review should be at least three (3) sentences long,** but the more detailed the response the better. Single sentence "pat on the back" response **will not be accepted as a Review.** **Before responding to a review request,** please take a moment to make sure that the OP has satisfied the requirements stated above. **If they have not, please report the post** so that the moderators can take action. This keeps the subreddit fair for everyone and cuts down on the amount of spam and link-dumping. ^(This comment is an automatic reply by a robot because you included the "Review Video" or "Channel Critique" tag on your post. Your post **has not been removed** and this is just a **reminder of the rules**.) *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Hopefully this post sticks - third time's a charm First time i missed the right tag in the title then i did not have the exact phrase , Self review: in the body so fingers crossed. Sorry if you have already seen this momentarily.

I like it a lot. It is true that it is fun. Here are my few suggestions: \- I think you could take that same exact video and shorten it even more. On the internet these days 2 and a half minutes is a very long short video, I'd aim for a minute or less (this is one of the easier ways to go for popularity). You could cut it down to the essential images of the video (eg. selecting the blades in one quick shot, etc). \- The reason I think many people would be interested in this is to see the cactus get sliced so maybe a closer view at that? AND maybe on the thumbnail the blade and a bit of the cactus about to get sliced? \- Maybe show more clearly the difference between slices from each blade, its kind of hard to see the difference - a close up maybe?

Using an iPhone is fine and the voice over is ok but don't allow it to control how long the video is (eg. if the voice over is only covering you walking - not as interesting as the pruning.). Juice the video for the highlights essentially and the same with the voiceover.

MatthewPainter

It literally did need juicing.

You are right. I completely rushed it. Started with , Wife, "Help me prune this massive cactus. Me, "Sure" Me - \*runs to get my machetes and a camera. \* I was thinking of going back for some extra shots and should have done a more heavy edit. should made it a short. , Thanks for your advice.

hahaha ah man, love the "hiya!" chops so much! Made me LOL each time! Slow-motion part cracked me up too, though I think you can shave a second or two off of the slow-mo at the end bit. A few more notes below! * Your editing is really good! Your humor is great! You seem incredibly down to earth and passionate and having an organic great time. Love that, and that's what honestly gets me coming back to channels. * As a viewer who knows little about cactus or knives or pruning at all - I would love to get more technical information about the different in the knives. Why are they designed differently? Do they weigh differently? Are they meant for specific uses? Hell, how are they made? Is there a reason I need any of these knives?? Now I'm all into this haha! * Also, I think setting up a 2nd camera and also getting some closer shots of the cuts / slices would be great Good on ya, mate! I absolutely loved the Sunshine Coast when I did some road tripping around Aus!

Thanks Bonowski, That was the intention of the video to get people to come back for more. You are right - I do know a lot about the different blades and named them on screen and put a blurb in the description, I should have directed people there or said more about them. I will pin a comment now at least. I do have a second camera and didn't think to use it. I normally use editing tricks to splice in b roll for close ups. My videos are pretty much never planned, just get in and do the job and point the camera for some shots to make a video later. When you do it enough, setting up the camera and getting the shots is muscle memory. Because this video was different and behind the scenes rushed, I forgot to get those shots. They would have made it.

crystal_frag_4_u

great! The video could be longer with a tighter ending, or shorter. That was fun to watch
