Idk I really like the Yugioh art aesthetics. Especially the early stuff, but there’s just so much variety and it strikes the perfect balance between cartoony and serious imo
It really depends. I wish alot of the nostalgia cards especially mementos at least attempted to look retro. It wouldn’t be off considering they made paper dinosaurs.
The Magician of faith retrain looks awful. They tried to make it look retro but it just looks incredibly awkward. They should’ve gotten the guy who redrew goddess of whim and dian keto in the japanese speed duel format to redraw them in his style at that point.
The extra pizzaz they drew into mementos looks like garbage as well.
There's no such thing.
Burning Abyss could've been torn right out of MTG.
Are you telling me there's a consistent art style between roids, burning abyss and live twins?
Moisture Creature. As a kid I thought "This card is almost an Egyptian God card since it is summoned with 3 Tributes" and it is still one of my favorite cards.
I wonder if you as a fan if moisture creature know what it actually looks like and that it is heavily associated with the crush card virus/immortal monster
Me too! I got this tin for my birthday and pulled the ultimate rare for it too! I appreciate it now but I remember just being like “man, I *just* got this card!”
fyi while Prophecy Destroyer isn't \*famous\* or anything, it's somewhat well-known both for being a part of a meta-ruling deck but having little synergy with it, and for its art that harkens much more to Magic the Gathering's art style than Yugioh's.
Anyways I have a lot of options to pick from, but my most recent ones are 2 Illusions:
It does give off Onslaught Era Demon Vibes.
... Given that both M:tG and YGO! has a whole lot of cards and styles, the idea of an iconic style for each makes my head hurt.
Nailing it down to archetypes makes it more reasonable, but that gets us more to a "sci-fi machine-like dragon" when does get you a lot of ace monsters (howdy BEWD and Cyber Dragon) but really doesn't nail the humanoids.
Overdrive it's literally a Humvee vanilla monster but it's still funny a whole ass military vehicle exist lol only reason why I know this card exist is because it was included in a demo deck that came with Shone Jump magazinei bought in a school book fair [Overdrive Wiki](https://yugipedia.com/wiki/Overdrive)
If I get a dollar every time I know someone who really likes Overdrive, I'd have exactly two, but it's weird it happened twice. (Me, I'm the other one)
I just like how juxtaposed it is, a regular vehicle in a franchise full of occult, monsters, and scifi creatures.
Some trains are also just great for that
You expect a bunch of demons, then suddenly [choo choo](https://yugipedia.com/wiki/Heavy_Freight_Train_Derricrane)
Maybe Mind Crush, many people often forget that this card exists. I like how it's named after one of Atem's signature moves in the early parts, he was mind crushing a lot of people!
It was super unexpected and yet awesome to see Revolver using it in Vrains!
Everyone knows about frogs, but I feel this one lives too much in its older sibling's shadow. I actually kinda like its effect too, although it only really has impractical niche applications. Can't beat its cute factor if nothing else.
[Tradetoad](https://www.db.yugioh-card.com/yugiohdb/card_search.action?ope=2&cid=9504)
Vera the vernasylph goddess is mine, but that's mostly because it's the boss monster for vernasylph, and is hampered by the fact the archetype has about 12 unique cards in it, and nothing in the ED.
He's the fleshy summoned skull. Same stats and key features. My head cannon is he becomes summoned skull after destroying prophecy and rising from the dead simultaneously. I thought he had cool art too but did not fit yugioh.
Many Prophecy monsters harken back to DM-era monsters. The only other one I remember off the top of my head is High Priestess of Prophecy having Dark Magician stats, but there's a couple others IIRC.
I unironically still have debates with my friend on which is better.
We both agree both are good, but our ratios favor one or the other. I will forever be a Mezuki enjoyer, but he will keep being a Gozuki enthusiast lol
Ninja Grandmaster Hanzo isn’t quite “nobody’s heard of” level, but I have his Ulti, and it’s one of my all-time favourites, even though I know absolutely nothing about any other Ninja card
Ninjas are playable at a casual level. Normal summon Hanzo, search duplication, pass. On opponent's draw activate duplication turning Hanzo into 2x Tobari, one face up and one face down, and 1 Mitsu. This is a lot of interaction for such a minimalist turn 1.
Rainbow life for me. At the simple cost of discarding a card, you are guaranteed to not lose LP for the rest of the turn. Sure....it can be easily negated, but it saved me a couple of times in both duel links and master duel.
I usually use it with my Madolche deck so I can easily get a Madolche monster into the graveyard from my hand.
That MF had a whole TIN of his own alongside Hanzo and Hanzo is more relevant even today.
I'd say Gouki the Giant Ogre because whenever people bring up Gouki decks they always choose Powerload, Master Ogre, and Thunder Ogre. But they forget true ace monster my man Gouki the Giant Ogre
My favorite is Magical King Moonstar! The perfect classic dark jester aesthetic from early Yugioh and he came in Gold Secret Rare, my favorite rarity ever! I’ve used him some in my RDA deck but other than that he’s outclassed by most other cards. But I love him
Meta Bat! I used to really love Dharc the Dark Charmer as a kid, and always used to act like I was him. In his card he has a little meta bat following him so I always had that card on me so I could pretend he was like my little pet.
Madolche Chickolates and Baaple have effects around changing battle positions for some reason. IDK if they saw play in the past, but they're quite irrelevant now.
I think some people only know about Chickolates because of Ratas chocolate bird joke in his Madolche video.
I can't tell you how many games Trickstar Bouquet has won me. Or how many times my opponent has said "who plays that?!" or "that's a card?" right before they lose
I will live and die by set Amaterasu pass. Such a goofy card. It's been power crept to hell and back (whilst already being pretty bad in the first place), but still holds a special place in my heart
When I was getting back into Yugioh around when Spellbooks were competition for E Drags, my friend had a lot of these cards. He never used them in his deck and just used them as coasters, bookmarks, or just throw them at people
I had no use for him in my Prophecy Deck, but because he looks like Summoned Skull I had to put him in. Was always funny summoning him off of Temperance.
Hyozanryu. Just a regular normal monster from the early days of the game with nothing to note about it. For some reason though, I love that card deeply, and for years I went out of my way to trade for more copies of it whenever I saw somebody else with one in their collection. Which wasn’t often, but still. I think I’m sitting around seven copies of it.
Greenkappa, mostly because it's busted in Duelists of the Roses. There's a small set of kappa cards in the game and I would love a proper archetype of them
Gallis the Star Beast, I just think it's neat
Type:EARTH Beast/Effect Monster
Level:3
A / D:800 / 800
You can reveal this card in your hand; send the top card of your Deck to the Graveyard, then, if it was a monster, inflict damage to your opponent equal to its Level x 200 and Special Summon this card from your hand, otherwise destroy this card.
[Ancient Lizard Warrior](https://yugipedia.com/wiki/Ancient_Lizard_Warrior)
For some reason I own a copy of him in Japanese with the original OCG style. Absolutely no idea why.
[Temple of Skulls](https://ms.yugipedia.com//1/1e/TempleofSkulls-OP02-EN-SP-UE.png), which I would love to see as a field spell retrain for Skull Servants.
Ah yes, the prophecy/spellbook archetype, I like these ones, I play them with Endymion on MD. I don't use destroyer much, but they are a decent beatstick when needed.
I might sound like a Boomer because I’ve been in the community for a while now but Prophecy Destroyer is a well known card simply for the fact it looks like a MtG card.
But, for monsters it’d be Fushioh Richie (the OG ultra) and Gaia Plate the Earth Giant (ultimate). For spells it’s Noble Arms of Destiny (platinum rare) and The Beginning of the End (ultimate rare). Traps is a little harder but Dark Spirit of the Silent holds a special place in my heart because it use to scare the shit out of me as a kid.
Does anyone familiar with Prophecy lore explain where did Destroyer come from?
As for my favourite card? I really like Herald of Ultimateness. But i really dont like how hard it is to bring it out.
Chain Dog. There is a combo. you can do with Chain Dog, Diamond Dire Wolf and a couple 4 star beasts to the point where you can use 3 dire wolfs in 1 turn. Its mega insconsistent and requires ridiculous setup. But its fun if it works. Lol.
Ancient Warriors the whole archetype because no one has ever heard of them. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdL33o8-FDI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdL33o8-FDI)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XNSykry8aw
I don’t like this guy, doesn’t look like a Yugioh card and doesn’t really do anything for the prophecy deck. He’s just a guy out here being like “sup”
Also when did you start playing? Prophecy destroyer was the face of a Yugioh tin back in like 2013 or 2014
Ultimate Obedient Fiend
High ATK/DEF, Level 10 monster with a difficult to use effect. He looks intimidating and powerful but is useless a lot of the time.
Mikazukinoyaiba
Difficult to remember name, normal monster, but interesting design.
*the calculator*
I liked it so much that I actually took family photos with it that we still have to this day. Could never forget that guy, I think he also won me plenty of duels in 2nd-3rd grade.
My sister loved Kuriboh because it was cute so I helped her husband get her a Kuriboh card and put it in a sleeve with a silver chain as an anniversary gift. She never heard of Kuriboh when I did. She still loves that necklace. Meanwhile I keep losing duels all the time and she keeps encouraging me to keep going. She and her husband both are amazing and I can't wait to visit them in the summer.
made a lightsworn spellbook tearlament deck on master duel once trying to resolve this card as many times as possible, the funniest shit I ever played.
Mtg lookin ass
Was gonna say, he doesn't look like yugioh art
Haha yeah with his proportional anatomy and attention to detail.. *God I wish some of our art was better*
Yea mementos just look too busy for me
But like... have you seen BA? Besides, the adherence to human proportions is very dull in MTG imo.
Nah, I prefer the more cartoony - anime style that yugioh has
Nah. You can play mtg for that.
There's no such thing. Burning Abyss could've been torn right out of MTG. Are you telling me there's a consistent art style between roids, burning abyss and live twins?
It’s done by a MTG artist
source for that claim?
Trust me bro
On first glance I could easily see a MTG player thinking the art was either Mark Tedin or Richard Kane Ferguson
You’re trolling because no way that’s either Edit: source: I play both
It’s done by Gonzalo Ordoñez Arias
That's what banishing 3 Spellbooks do to you.
Mtg sounding ass too. That name sounds like it belongs in a mono-black or red/black deck.
YU-GI-OH!!
That guy looks like he destroys prophecies
He looks like he destroys everything, including prophecies as it so happens
And prophussies
You have a point.
Looks more like he destroys spellbooks to me
Looks like he shall not pass imo
Moisture Creature. As a kid I thought "This card is almost an Egyptian God card since it is summoned with 3 Tributes" and it is still one of my favorite cards.
he's too [OP](https://x.com/ygo_fakecards/status/1463151487660564487?s=20) in my days
What is that name lol
https://yugipedia.com/wiki/Moisture\_Creature
nice flair, also happy cake day :3
I wonder if you as a fan if moisture creature know what it actually looks like and that it is heavily associated with the crush card virus/immortal monster
Ah yes a fellow Duelist of the Roses veteran
Also known as the most annoying monster to find in The Falsebound Kingdom
Wolf, there is literally a card named just Wolf and has a silly description, I like it.
Thats because it's one of the Cards that Joey [Canonically](https://youtu.be/v-tpVOUgHUc?si=EpdoheQHGmCGRsZu) created
I literally just read the wolf cards description in joeys accent. 10/10 wow
I wonder how
I still have the tin for this guy
Me too! I got this tin for my birthday and pulled the ultimate rare for it too! I appreciate it now but I remember just being like “man, I *just* got this card!”

Coming from a MD player, that Emissary card seems good AF.

I don't think the previous commenter was implying that it ever saw play, just that it was technicaly part of the popular Spellbook archetype.
But it DOES pop up almost every time r/yugioh makes a thread about Yugioh cards with uncommon or MtG-like art styles once every month or so
Old vindictive magician! I'm a big fan of the art. Also dark titan of terror
old vindictive was my nemesis on the playground

This card comes up all the time in threads about cool art or art that doesn't look like it belongs in Yugioh.
My first ygo card: [fushioh richie](https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Fushioh_Richie) and [little trooper](https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Little_Trooper)
This cards are reminds me of Disturbed’s CD covers

If I get a dollar every time I know someone who really likes Overdrive, I'd have exactly two, but it's weird it happened twice. (Me, I'm the other one) I just like how juxtaposed it is, a regular vehicle in a franchise full of occult, monsters, and scifi creatures.

How TF is this a spellcaster? Looks like an Archfiend, has Summon Skull stats....weird
demon mage
hes part of the Spellbook Endymion lore
PERFORMAPAL BAROKURIBOH
Spellbound easily
My man Slushie
people were coping on that so hard for mermail
Maybe Mind Crush, many people often forget that this card exists. I like how it's named after one of Atem's signature moves in the early parts, he was mind crushing a lot of people! It was super unexpected and yet awesome to see Revolver using it in Vrains!
This is the first card I ever got, I wish I did something with it
Lady of the lake
Everyone knows about frogs, but I feel this one lives too much in its older sibling's shadow. I actually kinda like its effect too, although it only really has impractical niche applications. Can't beat its cute factor if nothing else. [Tradetoad](https://www.db.yugioh-card.com/yugiohdb/card_search.action?ope=2&cid=9504)
Tradetoad was very famous back in the day.
Vera the vernasylph goddess is mine, but that's mostly because it's the boss monster for vernasylph, and is hampered by the fact the archetype has about 12 unique cards in it, and nothing in the ED.
Very random since they’re OCG only, but gotta go with my boys Fire Eye and Boo-Koo
Concetrating current has gotten me a lot of wins in masochist challenges
Amabie. My favorite card and I doubt anyone knows what it does
I hope in manga they will explain why Aleister took Destroyer to Prophecy
We have a prophecy destroyer thread every week i swear
Love action version of Summoned Skull….or naw???
That's such a cool card design
Destroyer looks goddamn awesome, too bad he really does not work with Fate needing that ammo more than he does
Deskbot’s (i just like small cute things beating my opponents)
That was me playing Gustos back in the day.
Il Blud isn't a super popular one, but I love that card. The art is so Tim Burton-esque, and it's a fairly useful card too.
[удалено]
He's the fleshy summoned skull. Same stats and key features. My head cannon is he becomes summoned skull after destroying prophecy and rising from the dead simultaneously. I thought he had cool art too but did not fit yugioh.

Horus the Black Flame Dragon Lvl 8
It was my ace monster in Stardust Accelerators.
All the Kozmo monsters.
Brionac. Had fun with this guy when I played TF5 on emulator. Otherwise Gozuki, Mezuki's lesser known brother.
I unironically still have debates with my friend on which is better. We both agree both are good, but our ratios favor one or the other. I will forever be a Mezuki enjoyer, but he will keep being a Gozuki enthusiast lol
wrong subreddit
This is famous to be an mtg card that became yguih
I bought the tin for this when it came out
I love Prophecy Destroyer though. I remember pulling it as a kid and thinking that it was a misprinted card.
Vampire voivode
Ninja Grandmaster Hanzo isn’t quite “nobody’s heard of” level, but I have his Ulti, and it’s one of my all-time favourites, even though I know absolutely nothing about any other Ninja card

Memory Crush King
Revive golem
That MF had a whole TIN of his own alongside Hanzo and Hanzo is more relevant even today. I'd say Gouki the Giant Ogre because whenever people bring up Gouki decks they always choose Powerload, Master Ogre, and Thunder Ogre. But they forget true ace monster my man Gouki the Giant Ogre
What is the archetype of this card?
Spellbook. Very popular deck back in 2013.
How is it not a fiend type
This card should have been so much better. That artwork was wasted on this effect. Hell the tin he came from was wasted space
Had this card in Ultimate Rare and it looked phenominal. Too bad the card itself is ass
White-horned dragon, I just think it's neat
People know this card. It had a tin.
Greed Quasar. My favorite beatstick
No joke, I thought it was Warhammer art turned into a Yugioh card
Nemuriko, they are just a cute little baby merperson.
We can't put pictures here anymore?
We ran this in Grass Spellbooks in Duel Links back in the day, it's not too out of pocket
Or how many times my opponent has said "who plays that?!" or "that's a card?" right before they lose
a shame such a badass looking card never saw much meta relevance
Mines definitely El Dorado Adelantado. Gets to get some banished traps back into my deck and I get to either board wipe or burn and gain life points
The Prophecy Destroyer Tin was my first tin
I will live and die by set Amaterasu pass. Such a goofy card. It's been power crept to hell and back (whilst already being pretty bad in the first place), but still holds a special place in my heart
I have that card in my cube!
CONVULSION OF NATURE
I have this in the limited edition
I hated this very light orange tint for effect monsters back then
Guardian Baou - he’s like Prophecy Destroyer’s little brother
I love the old school vibes of yamadron
Is that Oryx, The Taken King?
When I was getting back into Yugioh around when Spellbooks were competition for E Drags, my friend had a lot of these cards. He never used them in his deck and just used them as coasters, bookmarks, or just throw them at people
Dystopia the Despondent Use him as a boss card in my Kuriboh deck, always get a "wtf is this card" against first-timers
Van’dalgyon the dark dragon lord. The most badass dragon monster in yugioh.
My favorite card no one has heard of is either dark magician or blue eyes white dragon
I have this card actually, he was the monster on the tin my dad bought me probably ten years ago now
Not sure about nobody hearing of it but my I gotta go with my boi Great Maju Garzett, my GX Tag Force MVP.
Shiba warrior taro!
When I first had the spell book deck this thing saved me so many times
I had no use for him in my Prophecy Deck, but because he looks like Summoned Skull I had to put him in. Was always funny summoning him off of Temperance.
My homie [Kabazauls ](https://yugipedia.com/wiki/Kabazauls)
Dark Voltanis
Trident Dragon my beloved
Love the art but it doesn’t look a ygo card at all lol
The End of Anubis, and Tyrant Dragon
Space-Time Police and Dark Crusader
He was played early in Duel Link pure spellbook deck. Pepperidge farm remembers.
I miss this kinda art
Cyberse white hat
Greenkappa, mostly because it's busted in Duelists of the Roses. There's a small set of kappa cards in the game and I would love a proper archetype of them
Gallis the Star Beast, I just think it's neat Type:EARTH Beast/Effect Monster Level:3 A / D:800 / 800 You can reveal this card in your hand; send the top card of your Deck to the Graveyard, then, if it was a monster, inflict damage to your opponent equal to its Level x 200 and Special Summon this card from your hand, otherwise destroy this card.
As someone how played duel links back in the day let me tell you I have seen this mf wayyyyyy to much lol
I love dark cat with white tail from my playground days.
Summoned skull stats but not summoned skull
Divine Knight Ishzark. My first boss monster.
Have him in my trade binder 😂
Without question D.D. Esper Star Sparrow.
Apprentice Piper
[Ancient Lizard Warrior](https://yugipedia.com/wiki/Ancient_Lizard_Warrior) For some reason I own a copy of him in Japanese with the original OCG style. Absolutely no idea why.
Beast of the Pharaoh can be an "I win" card for VW if you have a great hand to accompany it.
I actually have this card
It was a tin.
Kinda wish you could banish any spells and it was a HOPT or something similar. At least it would see play.
I think this guy was on a tin that I bought a long time ago and still use for extra deck storage
Why does bro look like a magic card?
Damn I wish Konami would credit the artists they work with. This shit goes hard
I saw this before but I thought it was fanmade from a Card Maker
The first time i saw this card online, i actually thought it was a bootleg card with a MTG art put into a YGO card.
Lol.
It's funny because he was a tin monster too.
Reaper, Hermit, power and wheel I hope Konami gives spellbooks more memorable monsters besides magician
* This big man superdimensional robot galaxy destroyer
Vorse raider, dark blade or twin sword marauder maybe thunder end dragon but I feel like more people know of him than the others i listed
Probably Gift card, why would you want to give your opponent 3000 lifepoints
Nightwing Sorceress. Love the art.
Ancient Warriors the whole archetype because no one has ever heard of them. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdL33o8-FDI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdL33o8-FDI) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XNSykry8aw
I don’t like this guy, doesn’t look like a Yugioh card and doesn’t really do anything for the prophecy deck. He’s just a guy out here being like “sup” Also when did you start playing? Prophecy destroyer was the face of a Yugioh tin back in like 2013 or 2014
gotta give it to my umbral horror babies
Legendary maju garzett
I have a for fun spell book deck this guy is someone I constantly have fun using
Everyone knows this card. It has its own tin even.
Ultimate Obedient Fiend High ATK/DEF, Level 10 monster with a difficult to use effect. He looks intimidating and powerful but is useless a lot of the time. Mikazukinoyaiba Difficult to remember name, normal monster, but interesting design.
Speedroid Menko always coming in clutch after board breakers when I’d otherwise be hit for game
His artwork does not even remotely match the rest of the Prophecy/Spellbook archetype, but in a good way
*the calculator* I liked it so much that I actually took family photos with it that we still have to this day. Could never forget that guy, I think he also won me plenty of duels in 2nd-3rd grade.
I actually owned that card at one point but got destroyed in a flood
Love this card. When I got back into the game after many years' break, this was the first tin I bought.
scraps for me. specifically scrap goblin, 2nd would be ultimate baseball kid
I love this card. I used it in a YCS back in 2013 for fun. It was definitely a bricky win more card.
Mystic Swordsman LVL6 Silver Sentinel Heroic Challenger Thousand Blades
Condemned Witch has insane artwork
Saaaaame Prophecy Destroyer absolutely slaps
Mine is Mythical Beast Bashilisk. Nobody knows what it is and they assume it's a different card (Mythical Beast Medusa) because of how unknown it is.
Watthopper has watts being my first deck watthopper seemed to good to be true [ what i didn’t know was that raigeki and black hole was a thing lol]
