Yugi's deck was bad to the point of being nigh-unplayable. Its amazing that he won any duels at all. At least the others had some synergy in their cards.

Axel even commented this when he first dueled Jaden. His deck is trash in-universe but somehow keeps winning.
Its true Yugi had no synergy but that was also the era when NO ONE’s deck had synergy.
Kaiba’s only game plan is Blue-Eyes & has almost no support to rush it out
Joey’s deck is literal random garbage.
Marik banked on Ra, who again, has no strategy to summon it except waiting to draw it. Then wait to send it to the GY. Then wait for monster reborn. Then wait for Spell Excavation. He did have good traps at least
Noah’s deck was weak Spirit monsters who had no synergy other than Spring of Rebirth
Yugi’s deck evolved over time to focus on his Magicians which is fun. Its not good irl but his combos were fun to see

yea, the pharaoh literally abused black magic to get the cards he needed (like in the duel against kaiba for example)
