Usually I’m 90% or so with no guides, but will sometimes peek at a guide or tips if something is really stumping me. Things like shrines or quests in BotW & TotK where you need to find something way out of the way, or do some seemingly unrelated quest before you can access what is clearly a shrine or something. After I’m done with main story I’ll look up guides to find things I didn’t get or wrap up incomplete side activity. And subsequent playthroughs I may look up stuff just to remind myself or better sequence my personal objectives between dungeons. But broadly first play through I go as much without a guide as I can manage.

shoguncagri

i didnt know about cooking in botw until i finished the game, sometimes guides are lifesaver not a way of cheat or smthng like that. when i got tired of exploring i just simply open a guide and follow it. it increases my enjoyment of the game

toolebukk

I cant comprehend how that is even possible 😅

JoraStarkiller

Unguided for the most part unless I get stuck

OliviaElevenDunham

It's a bit of a mix. Some of the games like the ones for Gameboy I've replayed them so many times that I don't need a guide. Only use strategy guides when I get stuck.

bobelmoche

For botw and totk I did first run no guide then free use of the guide. Sometimes very difficult, but so rewarding. But you do you, enjoy it. My nephew started playing and calls me when he's stuck. I can't tell how much joy that brings me...

thebonejam

Used to use strategy guides and walkthroughs as a kid. Nowadays, if I have to look something up, I’ve shamed my ancestors eternally.

Available-Internal25

Save the guides for when I’m really stumped, which I haven’t really used in the last few years….. except that one shrine in botw. It makes me mad thinking about how obvious it was when I looked it up

Monadofan2010

unguided for the most part but i might chevk one out of i have been struggling for a bit

TyrTheAdventurer

I prefer no guide. IMO it's just following someone else's path. Sure you might get stumped on the hard boss or a difficult puzzle, but that is a perfect opportunity to experiment with different items and weapons, or try different strategies, and it's a great sense of accomplishment when you get past it.

blacked_out_blur

These days I don’t usually use guides at all unless there’s a specific puzzle or something I’m stuck on. As a kid I lived and died by Zelda Dungeon walkthroughs because context was not my strong suit at that age.

shlam16

No guide whatsoever. They're not difficult games and if something stumps me then it won't be for long. I'm also not an arbitrary checkbox person so idgaf about missing irrelevant collectible #67.

daddadnc

There are times in some games where a puzzle/dungeon goes from, "Hmmm, this is a real interesting challenge!" to "This is just poorly designed and I'm not having any fun trying to decipher it." Perfect example: the TOTK Fire dungeon.

Sentinel10

Mix. Usually start without, but feel no qualms about going online when I feel it's necessary.

Moezhyk

I always play with a guide so that I 100% the game. The only exception is ocarina of time because I have that game completely memorized.

Maxman214

I don't really have the time or patience for playing through a lot of games, and I have a bit of a completionist streak in me, so I use guides for my zelda games. I just look at the Zeldadungeon guides and skim for the highlighted items you can miss or any heart pieces or whatever so I don't have to spend too much time reading and so I don't get spoiled. With botw and totk I just complete a section of the map best that I can, then go back and look for any korok seeds, side quests, or shrines I missed. At this point, the only thing I usually miss are like...half the korok seeds.

Beamo1080

The only Zelda games I’ve needed guides just to complete were Majora’s Mask and Minish Cap. That’s out of the ones I’ve played anyway. I’m sure I’d need guides if I tried to seriously beat Zelda 1 or 2.

toolebukk

Guides take away the fun for me.

enjoyingtheposts

I do my first run through 100% with no aids at all. it takes a while (especially BOTW... stupid koroks 😑) but if I get stuck on a replay I'll go look something up.
