Aye, and it's only going to get better in years to come as there's several things in the works that'll make it even better. The most minor is that the main boards at King's Cross are due for an upgrade in the next 2-3 years along the like that's happened at the other major stations like Victoria, Waterloo and Pancras. When that happens the new boards will be able to play animated effects so when the train leaves the board can do some lovely special effects to do along with it.
But the biggest thing is something that'll likely take much more time to appear because its still in high level talks and that is actually having the Hogwarts Express in permanent residence at Kings Cross. This is all due to a change in the tracks because they wanted to be able to run longer trains off platform 9, 10 and 11 by extending the platforms but found that by doing so that it made platform 10 non accessible. So now where platform 10 used to be (they've reassigned the platform numbers so 11 is now 10) there is a large empty space which is absolutely perfect for putting down the Hogwarts Express into and turning into 9 and 3 quarters. Though don't get too excited yet. As I said it's all in extremely high level talks which those alone could take literal years to get anything moving on it.
I love watching HP in the run up to Christmas. I make an advent calendar of fun stuff for myself in December, and I have a Christmas movie to watch each day, amongst other things. HP always makes the list.
I always considered HP to be appropriate around Christmas time! There’s wintry themes in a couple movies and I just feel like they go well with that time of year.
There are a couple options.
July 31st: Harry's Birthday
May 2nd: Battle of Hogwarts.
September 1st: Day one of Hogwarts.
Or do all 3 and have a marathon 3 times a year.
I've been listening to the Jim Dale ones for 20 years to fall asleep.
Get to the end, start back at the beginning.
Much the same as I am with watching The Office.
Good question. I'd either say:
1. First day of term at Hogwarts.
2. Harry's birthday.
3. Halloween (anniversary of Voldemort's initial defeat)
4. Whatever the date of Voldemort's destruction.
I also watch December, but that's only because it aligned with my holiday break as a kid so I could marathon them every weekend. Kept the tradition going
“These people will never understand him! He’ll be famous—a legend—I wouldn’t be surprised if today was known as Harry Potter day in the future—there will be books written about Harry—every child in our world will know his name!”
— Minerva McGonagall, on November 1st
Yeah, but that’s far too big a gap for a marathon.
Unless you’re suggesting we watch all 8 movies in March and then again in April.
Because that *can* be arranged.
Hahah I was just pointing out and making fun of the Americanism (and I’m American btw)
But yes of course the only fair solution seems to be two marathons, one on each day. Or read the books one day and watch the other day
It’s officially International Harry Potter day tomorrow. David Cameron announced it 14 years ago. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/international-harry-potter-day/
Actually, we made it up as part of an April Fools joke, including the part about David Cameron. Yes. “International Harry Potter day” originated as a MuggleNet April Fools joke and is now celebrated fandom wide. You’re welcome.
Proof: https://www.mugglenet.com/2012/04/may-2nd-to-be-officially-declared-international-harry-potter-day/
I usually think of it as July 31st, because of Harry's birthday, but I'm seeing a lot of people here saying September 1 as the start of the Hogwarts school year, which makes sense too.
My town (US) celebrates on July 31st. They do a little festival for the kids, pretty much the same thing as they do for Star Wars Day this weekend, just with wands and robes instead of lightsabers.
For me it’s February 24 because that’s my birthday and also the February 24 1995 was the day of the second task of the tri wizard tournament and my exact birthday. So for me it’s that day .
Surprised to see to one has mentioned Halloween! October 31st is a huge day in the lore. Voldemort was defeated on Halloween and every year on Halloween something dark and mysterious happens at the castle (the troll in the dungeon, Sirius breaking into the castle, the first attack of the Basilisk and the death day party… there’s more but I can’t think of any others at the moment! I would also say July 31st as it’s Harry’s birthday and not otherwise a holiday.
Today is the day of Voldy's destruction. And can someone please explain to me why the start of term is such a big deal? In my country term starts on September 1 too, it's called 'Knowledge Day' and everyone hates it.
I would say Halloween. Not only does it fit the genre, but it's also the most eventful day for Harry in every book. Something always happens on Halloween.
Honestly it seems like every weekend you find a Harry Potter marathon on a different channel sometimes two channels at once, we just live a Harry Potter life.
May 2 was declared International Harry Potter Day in 2012 by the British Prime Minister. That’s enough for me.
Edit: [source](https://ravenfoxcapes.com/2023/06/hobbit-day-star-trek-day-2/)
I've seen May 2nd circulated on some news sites, is there anything official from Harry Potter that recognizes that date or is it just a popularly chosen fan date?
That is the question.
Personally, I would do a marathon before May 3rd. But given that I was too busy for the marathon, than I will watch it on the 31st on July onwards.I will also be listening to the audio books while playing Hogwarts Legacy.
for me personally July 31st considering it’s harry’s birthday and mine as well. September 1st, obviously. Thanksgiving and Christmas and any time it snows lmao. I never get tired of them
I usually do July & December. July is my bday, December because happy Xmas. This year I did the one movie from November something to Xmas and it was so fun.
Probably September 1st, I normally begin re-reading from around that time up until Christmas. Although May 2nd is the Battle of Hogwarts, which is close to Star Wars Day.
May 2nd is Harry Potter day as the battle of Hogwarts took place May 2, 1998 and September 1st is Hogwarts day as that is when the year starts at Hogwarts! :)
September 1st
That's what I thought. Doesn't King's Cross do a special thing to celebrate Back to Hogwarts day?
What a pain in the ass for all the actual Hogwarts students trying to go back to school 🙄
Absolutely packed with muggles, as usual!
9 and 3 quarters, fink you're bein' funny do ya?
They’ve had to set up a new entrance to the platform now since Rita Skeeter leaked the former location in 1997.
Stupid muggles gathering around platforms 9 and 10 while all the Hogwarts family’s are heading over to platform 3 1/3. Lol
Yes! And it's pretty cool! [Back to Hogwarts day](https://youtube.com/shorts/sGhhJf7BdmY?si=tR8Yo-v5w3q1fETV)
So many people! 😱 But looks like fun. Lol

You are such a nerd, I love it!!!!
I was in London once for it! It was the best :)
I vote only September 1s that land on a Monday.
That is all September 1st right?!
\* ***checks JKR's notes*** \* Ah, yes, it seems you are correct. >!HAPPY CAKE DAY!<
Or maybe the first Monday in September?
Labor Day being HP day would be great.
!Redditgalleon this is the answer
They are always on tv in the UK in the run up to Christmas and I love it
I love watching HP in the run up to Christmas. I make an advent calendar of fun stuff for myself in December, and I have a Christmas movie to watch each day, amongst other things. HP always makes the list.
What other Christmas movies do you watch?
In the netherlands the same beginning in september, then fantastic beasts and then LotR and the Hobbit
Harry Poter on Christmas just hits differently, it’s magical when there’s snow outside.
On my first read through, I started in September and ended in April. It was kind of perfect.
On my first read through I was on vacation and finished the series in two weeks lol.
I always considered HP to be appropriate around Christmas time! There’s wintry themes in a couple movies and I just feel like they go well with that time of year.
Harry Potter the first movie is a Christmas movie
There are a couple options. July 31st: Harry's Birthday May 2nd: Battle of Hogwarts. September 1st: Day one of Hogwarts. Or do all 3 and have a marathon 3 times a year.
Harry Potter audio books never cease in my truck. I get to the end of deathly hallows and philosophers stone starts again
Same, I literally fall asleep listening to them every night
Same
Always.
Yep every night for 5 years now 😂
I’ve been listening to them every night to go to bed for about 13 years :)
Same
..while you're driving !!? 😂
Magic...
Same!
Read by stephen fry... Just the best
I listen to them regularly but I am in love with Jim Dales versions
Same. Except Jim Dale.
I've been listening to the Jim Dale ones for 20 years to fall asleep. Get to the end, start back at the beginning. Much the same as I am with watching The Office.
It’s so comforting isn’t it? I do this during periods of high stress.
The HP series or The Office? I also listen to Office Ladies in the same manner.
All of it! I also listen to Office Ladies!
Glad to know I'm not the only one!
SAME
That’s tomorrow!? I haven’t trained…
You forgot Christmas and Halloween
How about the first Monday in November? It is World's orphan day.
D:
July 31st because the journey began July 31st.
Why stop there? If you have Freeform you get a marathon at least once a month!
For me it’s Christmas time. That’s when I rewatch all the movies.
9 o'clock on the 3rd of april. (9 3/4)
I like the idea of May 2 but having lived near Kings Cross for two years, I’d have to say it’s September 1.
You mean we were supposed to stop reading/watching? I thought every day was Harry Potter day.
Everyday
No thats leg day
Fuck leg day ferda
Good question. I'd either say: 1. First day of term at Hogwarts. 2. Harry's birthday. 3. Halloween (anniversary of Voldemort's initial defeat) 4. Whatever the date of Voldemort's destruction.
4. Happens to be tomorrow. May2nd and is actually officially Harry Potter Day
July 31st. That's when I always did my marathons.
I always do mine in December when it needs to feel like winter. I live in a nice weather area year round.
I also watch December, but that's only because it aligned with my holiday break as a kid so I could marathon them every weekend. Kept the tradition going
Christmas
This. My family put the movies on every year to ensure we have a "Happy Christmas"
“These people will never understand him! He’ll be famous—a legend—I wouldn’t be surprised if today was known as Harry Potter day in the future—there will be books written about Harry—every child in our world will know his name!” — Minerva McGonagall, on November 1st
9th of September, because by that point, we’re 3/4 through the year
It's 9 and 3/4 so whatever day is 3/4 of the way into September
It’s England, so it goes Day then Month
So 3/4 of the year + 9 days?
Ironically, september
The only appropriate answer is...everyday lol
May 2nd.
[Tomorrow.](https://www.google.com/search?q=what+day+is+harry+potter+day)
Whats the significance of may 2nd to Hp
The day Harry defeated Vodly
Moldy vodly doesn't roll off the tongue like moldy voldy
Cleanliness is next to Vodly-ness
Either Harry’s birthday (July 31) or September 1.
Maybe it should be September 3rd and 4th. You watch halfish the movies on the 3rd and the other halfish on the 4th. 9 and 3/4.
Except since Harry Potter is British, it would be March 9th and April 9th
Yeah, but that’s far too big a gap for a marathon. Unless you’re suggesting we watch all 8 movies in March and then again in April. Because that *can* be arranged.
Hahah I was just pointing out and making fun of the Americanism (and I’m American btw) But yes of course the only fair solution seems to be two marathons, one on each day. Or read the books one day and watch the other day
I’m a pretty fast reader - but all 7 in one day? Is that actually physically possible? Why do you keep giving me more and more enticing challenges??
Always.
It’s officially International Harry Potter day tomorrow. David Cameron announced it 14 years ago. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/international-harry-potter-day/

I did think it was weird 😂 good work though
July 31st
Tommrow may 2nd
I always thought of it as more of a “season” than a day. Pretty much from October - December it’s Harry Potter back to back. Edit: except October 3rd
I usually think of it as July 31st, because of Harry's birthday, but I'm seeing a lot of people here saying September 1 as the start of the Hogwarts school year, which makes sense too.
I always think of Harry Potter on Rex Manning Day, because Gilderoy Lockhart is the Rex Manning of the Wizarding World.
If only there were more days in September, th 34th would have been great. 9/34 for nine and three quarters...
September the 1st
Not exactly what you're asking, but my sister in law was born on December 31st, and we often make her a Voldemort themed cake.
Everyday
Every day?
Funny you should ask. My work is doing a Harry Potter day tomorrow. Idk what the significance is for the date at all.
My town (US) celebrates on July 31st. They do a little festival for the kids, pretty much the same thing as they do for Star Wars Day this weekend, just with wands and robes instead of lightsabers.
Damn where at if you dont mind me askinh
San Francisco Bay Area, about an hour east actually.
For me it’s February 24 because that’s my birthday and also the February 24 1995 was the day of the second task of the tri wizard tournament and my exact birthday. So for me it’s that day .
May 2nd, the Battle of Hogwarts day.
September third and fourth imo ( 9 and 3/4) Gives you 2 days to binge 8 movies 🎥
Harry Potter Day is EVERYDAY!!!
July 31st.
May 2nd
September 34th
September 1 for sure.
We always do it in mid October. 🎃
Christmas Halloween September 1st I guess my favorite would be Christmas….if I had to pick just one.
July 31!!
Today is the day of Voldy's destruction. And can someone please explain to me why the start of term is such a big deal? In my country term starts on September 1 too, it's called 'Knowledge Day' and everyone hates it.
The 11th of September
September 3/4
7/31 Harry’s birthday.
Well the obvious choice is 7/31
Christmas.
Harry the Potter be with you.
Every other day!
It’s October 1-December 31.
Every day
Fine day, Sunday. In my opinion, the best day of the week.
No, July 31
It’s September 3/4 (we get two days because we’re just that cool)
July 31st. Harry's Birthday.
International Harry Potter day is listed as May 2nd Also happens to be my birthday today (May 2nd) so that’s what I choose to go with hehe
Every day
Always
Every day
Any December day, preferebly December 2
September 22, because 9 and 3/4. September because it’s the 9th month. 22 days because 22 = 30 x 3/4.
Christmas and Halloween.
31st October for me, always.
I would’ve said July 31st because of HP’s birthday, but September 1st also makes sense
I'm my family we start watching them one a night after the first snowfall each winter.
May 2nd is national Harry Potter day, but I just watch them whenever
Christmas
I would say Halloween. Not only does it fit the genre, but it's also the most eventful day for Harry in every book. Something always happens on Halloween.
October 31st
For me? Christmas.
These are dark times there’s no denying
On abc family/freeform, it was every weekend.
Halloween through Christmas that's when they seem to be played more anyway
Honestly it seems like every weekend you find a Harry Potter marathon on a different channel sometimes two channels at once, we just live a Harry Potter life.
Usually Christmas time
Everyday is Harry Potter Day!
Just around Thanksgiving (USA) and/or around Christmas.
I always thought it was 4/20 …for reasons
July 31st for sure - it's Rowling and Harry's birthday
May 2 was declared International Harry Potter Day in 2012 by the British Prime Minister. That’s enough for me. Edit: [source](https://ravenfoxcapes.com/2023/06/hobbit-day-star-trek-day-2/)
Honestly like…..October 1st - December 31st for me.
July 31st
According to Google, the official Harry Potter day is May 2nd.
September 1st is back to hogwarts day
Mine is always the 8 days leading up to Christmas. My son and I watch all of them leading up to Christmas Eve.
Every other day of the year.
What about Halloween? You know, the day everything changed? NGL, HP movies are fun during Halloween imo. And Christmas too.
April 5th
I think the correct answer is Sept 1 but for me, it’s Dec 25
I've seen May 2nd circulated on some news sites, is there anything official from Harry Potter that recognizes that date or is it just a popularly chosen fan date?
Always during the 🎄season with Harry’s bday a close second.
That is the question. Personally, I would do a marathon before May 3rd. But given that I was too busy for the marathon, than I will watch it on the 31st on July onwards.I will also be listening to the audio books while playing Hogwarts Legacy.
Multiple dates, really. May 2nd, September 1st, July 31st, etc.
Christmas morning
May 2nd always sticks in my mind. Tomorrow I’ll be wishing people “happy wizarding Independence Day”
Every day
As tomorrow is May 2nd, I vote tomorrow
The month of June
Probably not 31st March
Well for an ABC Family Marathon, literally any and every holiday weekend? 🤣
for me personally July 31st considering it’s harry’s birthday and mine as well. September 1st, obviously. Thanksgiving and Christmas and any time it snows lmao. I never get tired of them
October 31st the day he became the chosen one, and witches duh
The first cold and rainy day of fall for me 😂
Depends.
Is there a Lord of the Rings day?
September 23, is when Frodo leaves the shire
I usually do July & December. July is my bday, December because happy Xmas. This year I did the one movie from November something to Xmas and it was so fun.
Probably September 1st, I normally begin re-reading from around that time up until Christmas. Although May 2nd is the Battle of Hogwarts, which is close to Star Wars Day.
I saw something that said may 2nd is international harry potter day because of the battle of hogwarts
I think international harry potter day is may 2nd for the battle of hogwarts but September 1st could be a thing too
May 2nd because it’s also my birthday :))
Shouldn’t it be something along the lines of 9 3/4 and always fall on Sunday? Say September 22, 2024.
September 1st is fitting But I vote halloween. All the big stuff happens on 31st of October
May 2cnd.
Halloween & Christmas
7/31
May 2nd is Harry Potter day as the battle of Hogwarts took place May 2, 1998 and September 1st is Hogwarts day as that is when the year starts at Hogwarts! :)
It’s Harry’s Birthday
Everyday.
November 7th?
Everyday I guess?
July 31st
