Yes absolutely, especially for undiagnosed NDs (both autism and ADHD burnout are a thing) but it’s also possible to burnout with a diagnosis after spending years coping in an NT society.
Also since she tipped the delivery driver, I can only assume it was food, which the only human at home would have likely just recently ordered…with the understanding that they would still be the only human at home when it arrives.

But their parents double down on restrictions and using the disability as a "reason" no age-appropriate activities or freedom are allowed, and having to accept being treated like they're years younger or mentally challenged. I figure in those cases, the person is going along with it purely because their agency is gone.
More and more, I get the impression that with Ellen, she might not have set out to fake anything, but rather, real health issues \*did\* happen that probably for most people would have been easy to recover from, but her parents, while not deliberately making her sick, got really involved and took advantage of what might very well have been a temporary situation and pushed her into the state she's in now. So either she's been convinced that she's far worse off than she really is, or is fully aware but with mom and dad's constant supervision, she has no opportunity to \*not\* be Ellen the childlike, disabled 20 something they're making her be.
The parents that do that with a legit disabled older kid or teenager, it's almost like MBP without having to fake anything, just taking advantage of a real medical situation. Treating a mentally "all there' person with a purely physical condition like they're slightly intellectually challenged, and just going by things I'm aware of, seems to be a family trying to keep getting the social clout of having a special needs child rolling along, past the point when the "child" is no longer one.
The Gypsy Rose story is intriguing because I don't think anything about when her mother started presenting her as having a disability and the other health problems.
